Mental health can be understood as a personal sense of well-being or contentment. When your sense of well-being is affected, so is your mental health. Anyone can be profoundly impacted on an emotional level when challenges, loss, or trauma result in their lives. The onset of a chronic disease and concerns about recovery can play a significant role on wellbeing.
Occupational therapy for trauma is about reconnecting with your environment and rediscovering the enjoyment life has to offer. Traumatic experiences are disorienting due to the intensely painful emotional event(s) to which they are tied. Similar to a water ripple effect, the occurrence and the pain are relived in successive waves over months or years.
