Douglas McNiven the founder and owner of the firm traces his roots back to Calgary. He began his career with what was likely the original specialist downtown insolvency law firm McNiven Kelly and O'Neil.
Douglas moved to Yellowknife in 1988 and worked as legal counsel for the Territorial Government for almost 8 years and then with a local firm before founding McNiven Law Office. Mr. McNiven works in the areas of corporate commercial law, and commercial litigation with a focus on creditor's rights. He has appeared before all levels of Court in the Northwest Territories.

McNiven Law Office began operations in 1998. Douglas McNiven the founder and owner of the firm grew up in Calgary working with his father John at the downtown Calgary firm McNiven Kelly and O'Neil (now Miles Davison LLP). Douglas McNiven moved to Yellowknife in 1988 and gained excellent background as both public and private counsel before founding McNiven Law.
Douglas's practice is concentrated on general commercial litigation, arbitration and commercial law; it includes bankruptcy and insolvency law and banking law, including the placement and enforcement of security and foreclosures; personal property security and priority issues; commercial transactions, including real estate; and advising businesses or litigating respecting related commercial matters such as employment law and human rights.
