HOW YOUR GAS FURNACE WORKS Your furnace is a very easy appliance to take for granted. Season after season, it sits there in your home, keeping you warm and comfortable. For this reason, you may never have given much thought to the way your furnace operates. In order to get the safest and most efficient operation from your furnace, you should understand how your furnace does its job.
York Furnace error codes are seen in three colors, red, green, and amber/yellow. Each color will also flash a specific number of times to signify a specific error. Breaking down each color, and number of flashes, will help you solve the problem you are having with your York Furnace. If you see 1 amber/yellow flash, this means that everything is okay and the thermostat is signaling the need for cooling.
Read one LED flash that stays on continuously to mean your furnace has no signal coming from the thermostat and will not operate. Turn the power off and check the thermostat for improper settings or connections. Interpret one LED flash that blinks on and off to mean your furnace has locked out because it could not ignite after three tries, and must be reset.
1. Verify that all wire connections are secure from the furnace to the hot surface ignitor. 2. Does the hot surface ignitor have any visible abnormal spots on it.? A burned hot surface ignitor will typically have a white or burned spot when it has failed. The below hot surface ignitor failed due to a "bad spot."
In the picture you will see a 1/8 inch round rod in the flame, that is the flame sensor. You need a multi meter that measures micro amps which you will connect in series with the flame sensor. The sensor is usually located on left side but on some furnaces it may be on the right side. How the flame sensor works is by a small AC electrical charge going through the sensor and it uses the flame to carry the electrical power to ground.
