From routine pet wellness exams to veterinary surgery, Dr. Drewell and the staff at Ballantrae Plaza Veterinary Clinic are here to help you with every aspect of your pet's health. We offer same-day appointments in urgent situations, or provide appropriate referrals to get your pet the best and most expedient care possible.
Regular pet wellness exams are essential for maintaining your pet's health. Puppies and kittens, adult dogs and cats, and animals with chronic conditions all have different needs that warrant individualized approaches to healthcare. Dr. Drewell will base her recommendations on your pet's specific needs.
Veterinary internal medicine involves the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the major systems of an animal's body. Examples include gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory illnesses, kidney and liver diseases, autoimmune conditions, and infectious diseases. Pets are masters at hiding pain and illness, and early warning signs are often vague and can correspond to more than one condition.
Dental hygiene matters, not only for appearances, but also for your pet's overall health. When pets develop gum disease, they experience painful chewing and eating, which significantly impacts their quality of life. Additionally, when bacteria build up in our pets' gums, it can travel through the bloodstream and damage vital organs.
We perform routine and elective surgical procedures at Ballantrae Plaza Veterinary Clinic, including spaying/neutering, mass removal, cystotomy, and dental surgery. We perform a full physical exam and recommend pre-anesthetic laboratory testing prior to any surgery. While your pet is under anesthesia, a registered veterinary technician will remain at your pet's side, closely monitoring his or her vitals.

We have been taking our Yellow Lab to see Dr. Karen for the last 10 years. We have had to take our Lab to see Dr. Karen twice in the past year for two separate concerns. We find her service to be excellent, Dr. Karen and her staff are quick to respond, informative and caring. I recommended Dr. Karen to a friend of ours who has two dogs and they are also pleased to have Dr. Karen as their vet as well. My husband and I cannot say enough nice things about Dr. Drewel and her staff. we have 3 dogs and 2 cats, so a few vet bills to say the least. Dr. Karen is always friendly and thorough with all our crew. When we had to go through the difficult task of having our old dog put to sleep, she and staff were amazing. So sympathetic and kind. It made a difficult decision easier to deal with. You could not get a better veterinarian!

Dr Karen is kind and compassionate. She'll take great care of your fury critter. Never too busy to take a moment to listen to your concerns. Here's a person that likes to listen to what you have to say and then does her best to work out an affordable and practical plan that works for you.
