The body's information highway - your nervous system - is protected by the spine. The nervous system travels out between the vertebrae or joints of the spine to carry messages from the brain to every corner of your body. Stress and strain on the vertebrae can put pressure on the nerves in the affected area.
In Canada, chiropractors are educated through two programs offered at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Toronto, and at the Universit du Qubec Trois-Rivires (UQTR). Both programs are accredited by the Canadian Federation of Chiropractic Regulatory and Educational Accrediting Boards (CFCREAB).
Chiropractic is a regulated health profession, governed in the same manner as medicine, nursing, dentistry, physiotherapy and the other regulated professions. Each province has a regulatory and licensing authority established in provincial legislation. The boards of the regulatory authorities include members of the public appointed by the province.
