Schooner Fish & Chips
Welcome to Schooner Fish & Chips in Oshawa, ON, where we take gluten-free seriously. We are a dedicated family restaurant, featuring both traditional and gluten-free foods for lunch, dinner, and takeout. Our signature seafood selections include our famous Alaskan Halibut, and we offer local favorites such as Poutine.

Linda, a close friend of ours, was diagnosed with Celiac disease, and during a weekend away with Linda and her husband, we saw firsthand the difficulties she faced. She ended up ordering plain chicken and lettuce the entire time, and we wondered why there wasn't a gluten-free restaurant with selections she could enjoy?

I kept seeing the sign for the for the mini donuts and wanted to try them. Came in and they had maybe five different sugar flavours and the donuts were made fresh and were very good. I definitely recommend trying them and they currently have an apple cinnamon sugar topping that is good but the chocolate is amazing.

If I could give it a zero I would. I ordered from this place on Doordash. I use the app very often and this was the worst meal I’ve ever ordered through them. The cod was flavourless, overcooked and unpleasantly greasy. The fries were burnt with not one grain of salt on them. The mushrooms had the overwhelming flavour of old grease. The shrimp was almost burnt, dry and flavourless, and the entire order was poorly packaged. I demanded a full refund from Doordash. Not even the fact that it ended up being free made this ok to eat. Could not even get through this “meal.” We threw most of it out

Schooner's makes excellent fish & chips. Read that again. Excellent! Service is quick, prices are comparable to other fish & chip places & added bonus is that they often have coupons for good deals. Give Schooner's a try you won't be disappointed!

GLUTEN ALLERGY:
YOOOO!!! Yes! I don't even remember the last time I had fish and chips due to my allergies. These, along with the massive onion rings were bomb! Greasy, but bomb. Perfect hangover food haha.
Give em a try!
The amazing service was the cherry on top!
Support local.

We ordered 12 dozen gluten free donuts for Sierra’s graduation celebration. Sierra is celiac and her favourite place to find gluten free treats is Schooners Fish and Chips. As always, she loved the donuts and gave them a thumbs up 👍🏻 I would like to thank all the staff for putting effort into making them look so beautiful!🦋 Shout out to Cathy for her hard work and great customer service! 10/10 would recommend! I’ve been a customer of Schooners for many years and they never fail to impress!

Don't let the picture fool you. Sadly, all batter and a very thin overcooked piece of halibut...so dry and hard to chew. The fries were soggy and not salted. Small portions! They need to do better...fish and chips are a dime a dozen in Oshawa!

They have a dedicated gluten free fryers so those of us who have celiac disease can have this treat. Fish - not quite as good as the real deal but still really good. Onion rings - get them! They are massive and delicious.
Husband had the regular version of fish and chips and said it was great.

Very good place for fish and chips . Ask for halibut it's the best. This place has been around for a few years, good to see they have a patio in the parking lot.
All of our local restaurants have been hit hard during Co-Vid 19, Please get out and support our local restaurants.

Great poutine. Looks like place was renovated recently. It's located in a strip mall so you don't need to worry about parking. Lady was friendly. They also had things like deep fried oreos and croquettes. Will need to go back and give them a try!

Made the drive from Toronto to Oshawa as I was craving fish and chips, and finding a gluten free celiac safe version is next to impossible.

The two ladies working there are so kind and friendly and will go into detail answering your questions. They actually started offering gf options as one of the ladies' friends is celiac and she saw how difficult it was for her to ever eat out safely and that prompted her to start preparing celiac safe alternatives!

They use separate oil/tongs/plates and even separate salt and pepper and ketchup! The fact that they actually know what celiac is and how

We popped by the schooner today after the tank ride at the Oshawa military museum.

I'd heard about the place for years.

My wife has the gluten free fingers and fries, and I had the cod and onion rings.

This is not a fancy place, nor is there a lot of place to sit, but that's because it's a fish and chip place specializing in tale out.

We were impressed by the variety of foods available, and the large gluten free menu.

For people who are Celiac, they have separated out all of the gluten free friers and the prep area. Separate supplies and nothing going back and forth between

Been craving fish and chips since going gluten free 6 months ago. Today was the day. Was pleasently surprised by the selection of gluten free options. Even dessert.
I only got the fish and chips. Everything is kept separate from the regular fish and chips.
My only complaint was I would have preferred my fries being a little crispier. They were quite soggy by the time I got home.

If you are dining here for the gluten free fish and chips when you first arrive you are going to be skeptical. It's not the most prosperous location( if I'm being honest), but don't turn around and get back in your car just yet.

Despite the location and the shops decor, there is REAL gluten free fish & chips in there!!!.

The server was great she knew her stuff(always a good sign), and the fish and chips were good as well they even go as far as making sure you have separate packages of ketchup, so you don't have to use the main bottle of ketchup that all the other animals

Came to Schooners as we were in the area - heard great things, and the family is glad we stopped by to partake.

We came for the gluten-free fish and chips, as it is hard to find in London (also the capital of it's place of it's origin).

Shout-out to all celiacs and GF eaters! We try to always support restaurants that make the extra effort to provide gluten-free options. This was the first time in about 10 years that my wife and son enjoyed a chippie, as they are both celiacs.

Schooners is a take-out joint, with two little tables, seating four. They had 2 sit down acres game table
