At Central Nova Animal Hospital we understand the unique bond between a person and their pet. As animal owners and lovers in a medical field we know the importance of pet health and it is our goal to treat every patient with compassion and care. We are an eight veterinarian AAHA accredited animal hospital offering a full range of preventative care, in-house diagnostics, surgical, dental and medical treatments using state-of-the art equipment.
Services
Central Nova Animal Hospital opened in 1987 as a single veterinarian practice with two support staff. In 1995 we became one of the first practices in Atlantic Canada to become AAHA accredited. To maintain our AAHA status we must meet the most rigorous up-to-date standards of the veterinary profession through evaluation every three years.
Dr. Jennifer grew up in Lower Onslow but after high school headed for Acadia University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science. She returned to Truro in 1998 to attend the Agricultural College where she did her research in Animal Science. While there she volunteered with us and this gradually turned into a part time job.
Central Nova Animal Hospital first opened it's doors to the public in 1987 by Dr. Ernie Prowse. At the time, the clinic was located in a facility on Pictou Road in Bible Hill, which is just outside of Truro. As client numbers increased we outgrew our facility. In 1992 Central Nova Animal Hospital relocated from Pictou Road to our current location at 29 Main Street.
Our surgical facility meets the highest standards set out by the American Animal Health Association. Patient comfort and safety are our main priorities. These are supported by state-of-the-art monitoring and surgical equipment, intravenous fluids, warming blankets, effective pain control and most importantly, continuous monitoring by both veterinarians and animal health technicians.
Dental disease is one of our most common and serious medical problems. Proper dental cleaning requires general anesthesia. We have a separate dentistry area where we can provide routine cleanings, polish and fluoride treatments as well as periodontal treatment and extractions. The costs and health concerns to the pet will vary markedly with the stage of dental disease.

Cannot thank them enough for seeing my sweet Sadie today, on an emergency visit.. They were amazing, kind, gentle and attentive. They explained everything in detail to me and took the time to answer all of my questions. When all other places wouldn’t see her because she “wasn’t critical”, they took us with no hesitation and saw her as soon as we… got there. There was no long wait times, and they went above and beyond for us. Highly recommend and will definitely be back for any future emergencies! It was very well worth the bit of a longer drive for me. Thank you Dr

I cannot thank this whole clinic enough!!! I had piece of mind my dog was in the best hands in our emergency this week. They accomodated a last minute appointment and then the next day told me to get there as… soon as I could when I called frantically. The care and compassion from Doctors, techs as well as the front desk went above any expectations. Thank you!!!!!!

After paying for a checkup, getting an "I'm not sure" diagnosis from the vet, and being prescribed multiple meds to cover her uncertain diagnosis, I was then told I had to pay $18 per prescription just to get them written up if I was getting them filled elsewhere (of course, they don't charge this if you buy their dramatically overpriced meds, for example, ketoconazole is $62 from them, and only $27 at the pharmacy). If you go here, they will get your money, one way or another. They fully exploit people just wanting their animals to be healthy. Congratulations to them for being able to ignore ethical

I would not bring any animal to this vet. My dog needed a emergency c section and because I was asking questions . I was apparently stressing the staff out . I asked them to call my dad cause he was going to try to pay them 500 towards the bill. They said not to call back because they would not help her. Basically gave my girl a death sentence.I would only recommend 4paws vet. They were appalled by what happened. They helped my baby girl and saved her life and her 1 puppy. Truro vet does not care about animals at all. Just the payoff. Sicking
