I needed to have a smoke/CO2 detector replaced, the company that built the house said their warranty coverage was over, the house is 4 yrs old, to call the manufacturer, I was going to be charged to send back the defective one which still had 2 yrs left on warranty to the states from Canada, I was told by Michelle, the customer care rep, that they would waive the shipping charge, like it was a favour she was doing me, it was a discontinued product of theirs, she would send me a replacement with an expired replacement date, brand new, if I accepted this as a replacement it would waive the two years
