Services
Windermere House is owned by a Trust for the benefit of various children charities and the preservation and conservation of the Windermere property and community. Join the generations of Canadians who have trusted Windermere House as one of Muskoka's premiere vacation destinations for almost 150 years.
Our record of hospitality dates back to the 1860s when Thomas Aitken, who journeyed from his home in Scotland's Shetland Islands in 1860, first received visiting sportsmen as guests. Where we began. Thomas Aitken's original Muskoka property was designated for farming, but when the land he purchased, inland from Windermere, proved to be less productive than expected, he moved to the Lake Rosseau shoreline where Windermere House now stands.
Our goal is to make our House, your House. Offering 56 luxurious rooms and suites, and a charming, private, well-appointed four-bedroom cottage - we want your stay to be the first of many. All rooms: elegantly furnished, with air conditioning, plasma televisions, irons/ironing boards and hairdryers.
Enjoy a traditional picnic with a sumptuous spread prepared by our Executive Chef. Your gourmet basket contains all of the essentials including a blanket, cutlery, and condiments. Reservations must be made three days in advance. We provide guests with a variety of complimentary recreational activities, perfect for land and water lovers alike.
Whether you are a resort guest or just live around the corner, AMBA Health and Beauty Spa at Windermere House will relax and rejuvenate you with our cornucopia of services designed to pamper your body and soul. AMBA spa services include massage, facials, aromatherapy body treatments, as well as manicures & pedicures.

We were quoted $275 for a room, when we arrived after a 2.5 hour drive, they told us that they had made a mistake and couldn’t honour the quote. Unfortunately, we had arrived at midnight and we didn’t have anywhere else to go. After, Windermere quoted us 350 for the same room, and proposed a better room for an additional $75 with a view of a lake. We chose to pay the extra $75, however the room didn’t have a lake view and had an extremely small window. Next, in the morning we were never advised of the early check out time, in less than 5 minutes after Justine Davidson had come to our room

My partner and I stayed over Thanksgiving weekend and could not have been more impressed. We read the mixed reviews before arriving and did not know what to expect. I typically don't trust the negative reviews, as it seems that people will not hesitate to leave a bad review to just be heard or get compensation. Very few will will leave a review after a good experience. We are in the hospitality industry ourselves and understand what a challenge it can be at times, especially on a busy weekend like this past one. I must say, the staff were outstanding.. very welcoming, friendly and patient. Dinner

My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary here. The staff were very friendly went above and beyond with little details that made us felt "looked after". We had a problem with our room and the staff were quick to solve the problem and moved us to a different room. The food was lovely. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Lovely recreation of the original building, now with modern amenities. Rooms are nice, clean, excellent beds. Staff are very pleasant, and the menu offers great choices. Good covid safety protocols as in place and mask usage was good. Be aware that there is no housekeeping service during your stay, just before and after. The location is beautiful. Meal quality is variable. Our group of 8 experienced meals ranging from very poor to exceptionally good. We think this was due to kitchen staff shortage due to covid, and worth complaining. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.

Gorgeous location, a bit dated but charming. We had a very relaxing stay. The rooms are not soundproof so we could hear the man next door clearing his throat and coughing incessantly during the night, unfortunately. Our room had a beautiful balcony with patio furniture. Absolutely lovely in the morning at sunrise and at sundown
The option to sit around a bond fire at night is wonderful.
Our waitress was top notch both mornings at breakfast, but some of the other staff were either exhausted from the long season or a bit clueless. I do not recommend the spa, it is overpriced and quite average.

My wife and I chose Windermere House for an anniversary getaway. After reading some negative reviews regarding the House, we were apprehensive about our choice. We didn't change our plans, however, and I am glad we didn't. Our stay was wonderful; delicious food, fantastic service, clean and comfortable room, and amazing views.
I followed the recommendations about making dinner and breakfast reservations, making them several weeks before our arrival. For the two evenings we were there, we were able to eat dinner on the wonderful veranda (it is first-come, first-serve, so it's not a guarantee you

The location is beautiful. Extremely kind staff. Great view and nice pool. There was a dripping noise in my room that they weren't able to to fix. They charged me for an extra bed even with my reservation through Booking.com with the correct amount of guests. The food is good but in one of our meals everything was burned. It also took very long for the orders and food to come. We would come back to this pleasant hotel.

Disorganized and very slow service. Slower service than most Muskoka restaurants at least. Food was mediocre at best. For a group of four two meals came incorrect. In addition Kids "grilled" cheese was simply two pieces of toast and cold slices of cheese between not grilled at all. Fries were decent. Hate to see a weekend. The veranda is night and day but they have a chef. Assume it is just a line at the pub.
We only came here because the veranda was fully booked for lunch. It is unfortunate they cannot keep quality tighter between the two restaurants / more consistent.

Delicious lunch sitting on the terrace overlooking the gardens and lake at this lovely resort. The grounds are beautiful! Waitress very welcoming and friendly and considering the place (like so many others) is experiencing a staff shortage she is to be commended. Would love to stay there in the future!

Slow. Food is good. Expensive for a pub over $400 for 5 - 3 under 15 and 2 adults (4 glasses of wine). Michele is the waitress you want. Blonde girl - brutal. Left us to have her dinner!!?
Michele created a great service experience - clearly they are working through the ownership change.
Not as good as when O and B was the restaurant provider - but thanks to Michele all good!

Ground level in the Windermere resort is this cute little pub. We sat out on the lovely patio overlooking the lake. I had the chicken burger with sweet potato fries. I thought I was the only person who made chicken burgers. Reasonable priced cocktails and daily specials make this a more casual option for dining out in Windermere.
