If an employer wishes to hire a temporary foreign worker, a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) will be required in most cases. A positive LMIA will show that there is a need for a foreign worker because there are no Canadian workers or permanent residents available to fill the job.

Employers wishing to hire a foreign worker must provide the foreign candidate a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) in order for them to apply for a work visa to legally work in Canada.This document is issued by Employment and Social Development Canada to employers who have applied and met all the requirements.
