Alpine Veterinary Medical Centre
This is the treatment room where surgical patients are prepared, blood samples are taken and minor procedures performed. Our dental treatment area has a digital dental x-ray machine to allow us to take full mouth dental x-rays to accurately assess your pet's oral health.

Our surgical suite has advanced patient warming equipment as well as an ECG, blood pressure monitoring, pulse oximetry, and temperature monitoring to ensure that your pet is safe while under anesthesia. Our ICU kennels allow us to monitor critically ill patients and patients recovering from surgery.
Services
Alpine Veterinary Medical Centre was opened in February of 2005 in Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon Territory. It was founded by Dr. Rick Brown and Dr. Kim Friedenberg, colleagues and classmates who have been serving the veterinary needs of the Yukon since 1998/99. We are a mixed animal practice and provide services for a wide variety of species and to a wide geographical area.
Rick hails from the prairie town of Brandon, MB where he graduated with a combined Bachelor of Science degree from the University of British Columbia and Brandon University. He attended veterinary school in Saskatoon and graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. Rick has called the Yukon home and has been practicing in the north since 1999.
In general, we like to do an overnight fast for most dogs and cats - this means that they can have their supper the night before, but they shouldn't eat after suppertime, and shouldn't have any water after midnight. Some animals have health conditions that make them prone to low blood sugar levels - if this is true of your pet, your veterinarian will probably recommend a shorter fast before surgery.
Pet emergencies can often outside of business hours, and Alpine Veterinary Medical Centre offers emergency services to our clients. Emergency service is available twenty four hours a day, seven days a week and one of our veterinarians can be reached by calling 633-5700. Outside of business hours, this number will reach our answering service which will page the veterinarian on call with the information and a number to reach you at.
Alpine Veterinary Medical Centre has a fully equipped surgical facility. Our surgery suite is equipped with positive pressure ventilation to reduce risks of airborne contamination, ceiling mounted oxygen coupling, and a negative pressure waste gas recovery system.

In addition to the standard components of a surgical ward, are surgery area is equipped with a comprehensive array of up-to-date anesthetic monitoring equipment to ensure that your pet's anesthesia is as safe as possible. Please see our Anaesthesia section for more information about how we maximize your pet's safety under anesthesia.

Highly recommend Alpine Vet clinic. The staff are always friendly and do their best to meet the needs of all the animals located at Mutt Mansion Sanctuary. I am never disappointed with their service and care towards the animals and clients. To bad not all customers could be respectful to the staff. They work hard daily.

Dr. Rick was wonderful when we had to put our dog to sleep. We are new clients and the staff were great. They placed a blanket on the floor for him for comfort.

Very thankful that they were able to see us short notice right before the holidays (and during isolation no less!)

Our 10 year old dog, Ozzie has a massive tumour on his hind leg. Over spring break it opened up and was getting worst as the days went on. Dr. Helen Eddy called us, helped lessen our worry and showed… compassion. Yesterday we talked again and decided he needed surgery. Thanks to Dr. Elliot and team that fixed our boy. He is at home resting and getting all the attention he wants. Thanks to the whole team at Alpine!

I can not recommend this clinic enough. We have received amazing care and follow up from several of the vets. Beyond grateful to Dr. Ellingson for saving my lead dogs life. When one vet is seeing an animal, often times there are several vets working on the same animal behind the scenes.

Cannot thank Dr. Matt Allen and technician Jessica Ross enough, they went above and beyond to save our dog. Without Alpine's emergency on-call hours and the medical staff's incredible efforts, there's no way our dog would have survived. They explained all the options and prices with compassion and understanding. We are truly grateful, happy holidays.
