The Port Albert Inn originates from the earliest days of European settlement in this part of southwestern Ontario. It was built by John Hawkins in 1843. At the time John was a surveyor and he had been contracted to survey the area which had been purchased from the local Indians.
After discovering and mapping the village in the Nine Mile River Valley (nine miles from Goderich), John decided to retire from surveying and become an Inn Keeper in the newly founded village that he named on the sandy shores of beautiful Lake Huron. He decided to construct the Inn copying the distinctly Georgian style typical of that time period and much of the Inn remains the same today as it was originally constructed.

Owners are very friendly and the atmosphere is very rustic and comfortable. Hot breakfast in the morning was very good. Very quiet area with a general store/pub across the street that has hot food as well as alcohol. Just be aware that there is no A/C at the inn, so if it's a really hot week it could be an issue. Overall a good experience.

The place has history, I give it that. But, because it has history it doesn't mean it needs to be run down.
The room (3) has no privacy as there is a big grill in the door that is open to the hallways allowing you to see and hear the comings and goings of other guests. The room is in need of a good clean as there are cobwebs and old built up dirt in corners. The bed, I can tell it will not be a good sleep, it is noisy, and the building has no AC, and no fresh air isn't AC, when it is 30 outside no one wants fresh air, they want AC.
I really wish I had gotten a hotel in Goderich rather then this

This place is absolutely charming and a wonderful city-escape! Our room was fantastic!-clean, picturesque, and full of natural light. The living room-lounge has a roaring fire that the friendly owner Angus, keeps well stoked! It’s so relaxing and charming here, we booked for two nights but I wanted to stay another! The breakfast was excellent and hardy! And the beach a short distance away for beautiful sunsets. We came in early spring while it was still quite chilly-which is another reason why the fire was so welcoming to sit in front of, read, drink some wine, and truly feel at peace! We’re

This place is lovely, charming and well kept. The bed was comfortable. The owner was welcoming and pleasant. We stayed in room 4 which was small but fine. The problem was that while the place is billed and signed as non-smoking, the other side of the building is the owner's home and a locked door to that section in room 4 had strong cigarette smell coming from it. We therefore could not stay our planned second night due to this smell. The owner claimed that no one on the other half of the house smoked and that he couldn't explain it.

Wonderful little Inn with plenty of charm, comfort and quirk. The fire was roaring for us upon arrival, and we enjoyed a drink in the main room. Angus was a great host, making sure we had everything we needed. The room itself is awesome, with antique furniture and a very comfortable bed. Breakfast and hot tub in the morning were really special touches. Highly recommend for something unique, very charming and cozy.

We had a wonderful stay recently and really enjoyed the ambience and history of the Inn. Enjoyed our wine in front of the fireplace and pizza from the General Store & Pub from across the street. Our room was very clean and the bed was A-1. Breakfasts were fantastic and kudos to the chef Angus not only a good cook but a very good host.
We highly recommend a stay at the Inn!
