Slabs which are used for today's production purposes can be classified under two main categories. These two are commonly referred to as natural and synthetic stone. Both are further divided; natural stone by type and synthetic by manufacturer. There are no real limitations or restrictions with regards to a specific function that a particular material should serve.
Naturally occurring rocks can be further divided into three categories, which are based on the sequence processes of formation that the minerals had to go through and ultimately creating these natural masterpieces. Once extracted from the ground, for the most part they arrive from the quarry prefabricated with high gloss finish, as this brings out the vibrant colors and beauty of the stone.
Every natural stone consist of a variety of different minerals. Once the block is extracted from the ground it is sliced into slabs, which go through a polishing process. Due to the pressure applied by the polishing machine the softer parts of the stone may be eroded. Primarily the cost of the stone is dictated by its availability on the market.
