Q: I have horrible bunions (genetic), on both feet and play sports that require running and crouching, am I able to resume these sports after having surgery? I do wear orthotics which have relieved quite a bit of the pain involved but am reluctant to proceed with surgery for fear of losing mobility.
Dear Dr. Mathews, It has been just over two months since my foot surgery to remove the bone spurs on my right foot. Not only has my foot healed very well and most of the swelling is gone, I am walking very well. I am still wearing only runners and flat shoes (as you said to do), and I work and flex my toes everyday.

Few days ago, I saw DR. Matthews on unrelated matter to my bunion surgery which was done 21 years ago! I am eternally grateful to Dr. Mathews for his surgical skills, professional & personal attention, which allowed me & continue to enjoy walking, skiing, dancing that 21 years ago were not possible. Thank you!

I originally saw this doctor in May 2020, in regard to a foot injury. Initially, after my first appointment, I underwent an x-ray to ascertain the extent of the injury. The diagnosis was confirmed and I was advised to wear a protective boot for a number of weeks. After the recommended time I contacted Dr. Matthews again in July 2020, he scheduled another x-ray and I received the results with a recommendation from Dr. Matthews to wear "comfortable" shoes and to take vitamin D and Magnesium supplements to increase bone density to aid in healing.
I asked Dr.Matthews shortly after this how long I

Have been lucky to be treated by Dr. Mathews for several years now. He takes his time diagnosing but also educating and creating a treatment plan for you. I went in with foot pain and came out learning about foot mechanics, proper stretching, what to look for when purchasing footwear and how to stay pain free. The front end staff is friendly and supportive in helping with appointments, paperwork , insurance forms etc. If you are in need of a podiatrist this is your clinic and Dr. Mathews is your man.

I went to Dr. Mathews ten years ago, when I was 19, with very developed bunions in both of my feet. I was in constant pain and needed a permanent solution in order to gain enjoyment out of my life as a young woman. Not being able to walk for longer than 20 minutes without horrible foot pain did not suit my lifestyle!
Dr. Mathews was very kind to me, he treated me with dignity and respect, he was super informative about the procedure, and he was friendly and engaged with me as a patient as well as with my parents at the time. We decided to operate on the foot that was causing the most pain (my
