A tradition since 1948, we've been servicing Southwestern Ontario and area brides and bridal parties. For 60 years, we've been offering quality service, selection and expertise. So, how did it all begin? In the late 40's, Sophie and John Stronski started the business in London, Ontario. All of the gowns were hand made and designed by them.
At all four locations, Sophie's offers in-house alterations for your convenience. Let our expert alterations staff provide the perfect fit for you. Brides want to start their fittings 6-12 weeks prior to the wedding. Come prepared with shoes, crinoline, and proper undergarments. Bring someone with you for your final fitting so that they can learn how to bustle your train.
Hi my name is Amanda, I've been working at Sophie's Gown Shoppe for a year. Before working at Sophies I came from a personal training background which I found very rewarding. Working at Sophies gives me that same feeling in a shorter time span. I am a great listener and can't wait to hear all about your special day and what qualities in a dress you're looking for.
I have been with Sophie's for twenty three years. I love empowering women and helping them to feel beautiful on the inside and out. When a bride comes into the store and is on the fence about how she wants to look on her wedding day, I thrive off of being able to put the pieces of her puzzle together.

Horrible customer service, the manager went back on her word.
I found a beautiful dress here, on sale! I was hesitent about getting it and was already feeling pressured so I asked the sales associate if it was possible for them to hold the dress for me. It took some time but she came back and told me her manager said they would hold it. After being indecisive I asked my mom to also go ask the manager if they would hold it. My mom asked the manager, again, she said she would hold it. I got changed and went up to the cash and started thanking the manager for holding the dress. She interupted me

Sophie’s Gown Shoppe was the only place I could go to in order to get a bridal dress on time for my wedding. I was very fortunate that they allowed me to try on dresses at home. Not the experience any bride wants but the only choice I had. After 6 dresses and the drive back and fourth to pick up dresses and drop off, I finally found my dress. I definitely recommend shopping at Sophie’s Gown Shoppe as they have so many stunning dresses and they truly care about their clients.
The one thing I would recommend is to do your alterations somewhere else, I had a terrible experience with my dress

This was the worst experience I could have imagined. The other reviews do not lie... if you want to go somewhere where they keep bringing you dresses that you don't want, then go here. My mom and sister could see me getting noticeably bothered, so when they tried to speak to the consultant and ask her if she understood the type of dresses I was looking for, she got so defensive and said she knew how to do job. She mentioned for us to 'check her google ratings.' Not only that, all the other places, the dresses were at least a size 12 and the consultant would come in and clip me before showing my

Stay away from this shop. Deserves a ZERO star rating. Employees are very unhelpful and rush you during your appointment. If you tell them all the styles that you do NOT like they go ahead and bring you everything that you asked not to try on. I was told that they did not have any of the styles that I was looking for. I called the Kitchener location and was told that all the dresses I wanted to try on were indeed at the Mississauga location. Employees at this location do not care and are not interested in what you are looking for.

We went in for the appointment and found that they wouldn't let the bride even look at dresses. I understand the need for covid precautions but we had already been to 5 or so shops and not one wouldn't even let us browse the gowns. We ended up walking out because the saleswoman didn't even try to understand what the bride wanted. These gowns are also overpriced. I tried on a gown here 5 years ago and ended up buying it elsewhere for $500 less. You've been warned!

I went in for my first appointment looking for a wedding dress last night and didn’t expect to be buying a dress. I showed my consultant Anna a couple dress styles, and told her our budget. Every single dress she pulled was amazing taste, and she stayed below budget on all of them, this allowed me to afford the dress and alterations in my budget. We were incredibly impressed by how well she picked dresses that not only were what I wanted, but suited my body style! Very disappointed with my experience at Sophie's. the consultant was very rude almost annoyed that I was there. I said I didn't want lace yet 80% of the dresses she gave me were lace. I'm a plus sized bride and was given a size 12 to attempt to squeeze in. I had found 4 dresses on their website, and none of them were in store.

Sophie’s on Dundas was the second stop. Been to many others with other brides previously. We were asked all the key questions, including budget and the ladies actually listened! Didn’t feel pressure to try anything. Given lots of options. Selection was well displayed, easy to browse.
Even by appointment only, wearing masks, sanitizing hands didn’t take away from the welcome, service, selection, location.

I got my dream dress here. I had the best consultant i could have asked for. She understood when i didn't like a dress and truly made it all about me. I told her what style i was looking for and she kept pulling dresses until we found it! There was never any pressure to purchase a dress and she was so knowledgeable on every dress I tried on.
The store was beautiful. Very clean and dressing rooms had a lot of space.
Overall I am very happy with the service and quality of the store. I am also very pleased with my dress!

I hit three bridal stores on my first day shopping! I was thankful we started with Sophie's. The staff was super kind and supportive.
My consultant, Livia, was really knowledgeable about all the dresses and really listened to what I was saying.
Anyways, Livia and my mom found my dress! I panicked, of course. When I came back the following week, I asked for Livia again! She pulled all the dresses I wanted to try, and "the dress." She put me in all of them! We spent the whole appointment exploring - again! Until finally I put my dress back on, and that was it!

Honestly I am sad to read all the terrible reviews on here - I personally have had a great experience with Sophie's. I went in twice - had the same consultant who was amazing, and ended up buying my dress there! The first time I went I was just browsing (it was the first store I went to for dress shopping) and I did not feel pressured at all to buy. Everyone was really polite - so maybe they let go the person everyone else seemed to be reviewing? But this was back in February and I had no issue. I went in not really knowing what I wanted, I had a slight idea but I didnt know what would look good on me. My consultant Anna was really helpful, she was not pushing the sale on me as this was my first time trying on dresses. However she managed to find my dress, and I couldn't be happier with it. Also the dress was well under my budget which made it even better. I would definitely reccommend coming here.

As a wedding planner I have to say, I'm appalled at the service here and I'd never let another client go there.
My client had been to two other boutiques before going to this appointment. Both treated her like a Queen. Both were very courteous and to come here was the complete opposite experience.
Every time a bridesmaid went to speak, the consultant kept speaking over them. Every time they recommended a dress, or wanted to give input, the consultant shot it down. She was short, borderline rude, she was condescending and made the experience really bitter. It was really awful to watch

Not a positive experience. Bought wedding dress here. They lost a piece of my dress (which was all swarovski crystals I might add), never returned phone calls or emails when in inquired about why it was not with my dress on my pickup appointment where I felt completely rushed and pushed out of the store. I called 15 minutes after I left the store which was was two days before my wedding. On my second call, I was asked very rudley by the DM why I even wanted it which was none of her business. Bottom line.... buyer beware. I have still yet to receive an apology or admittance that THEY lost something

My experience with Sophie's hasn't been the greatest. I had a few sales appointments in order to narrow down what I wanted and what could be done. I ended up finding a sales associate who was very kind and understanding. It seemed a few other there were new and not as helpful with what they were saying or offering.
I was told I should order my dress in advance since, just like on television, these things take time. I ordered my dress in March and was told it would take about 7-8 months. Not a problem I don't get married until February.

Gordana is a dream dress match-maker! She quickly understood what I was looking for and helped me find my gown. She was friendly, funny and patient. I highly recommend requesting her for all bridal appointment. She is the reason for the positive review.
The store is bigger than most bridal shops I've been to so I appreciated the selection. Only complaint is not being greeted when arriving.

Bridesmaids dresses are SO expensive (like $215+ for short basic ones, average $300 or so), which seems pretty ridiculous for a place with unidentified brown stains all over the ceiling, flickering fluorescent lights, and a dingy, dirty old carpet (we had to take off our shoes - why?! The carpet was old and soiled, it wasn't some plush white carpet). It was a terrible place, and we left within 2 minutes of being there. Maybe it's okay for brides, but bridesmaids stay far, far away.

I was 98% close to cancelling my appointment after reading all the poor reviews. My sister suggested we just give Sophie's a chance so we ended up going. I'm glad she convinced me to go because we came in with zero expectations. By the time we left we were very glad we visited Sophie's Gown Shoppe.
Joanne who was helping me try on several gowns was very friendly and helpful. She knew I was just starting to look so there was no sales pushing at all. The change room I had was in the back so it felt more private than out front.

We walked in and about 5 employees were sitting at the front counter...
- two of them glanced over but no one greeted us.
- nobody asked if we needed help
- they were venting about their lives and gossiping about other people
- no "goodbye" or "thank you" when we left
Soooooo basically we were invisible

I made an appointment for my sister to come for her very first wedding dress consultation- in which I'm sure any first time bride would be very excited about. We were definitely impressed with their collection and variety of dresses. lots of pretty ones hanging in the show room. the girl assigned to her pulled a couple nice options but sister expressed to me that she didn't pull anything like what she described or requested from the consultant. what upset my sister the most was that the girl pushed her to make a deposit. she was blunt and pushy. I understand they make commissions however

First of all, I am being forced to give them one star because they don't even deserve that. They take complete advantage of the kind of business they're in and I really do wish I had taken previous reviews into consideration before visiting this place. During my dress shopping experience, the spanish lady who helped me was nice but her boss was ALWAYS on top of us because she didnt want us to take pictures and it just made the whole experience stressfull because I wanted pictures to take home to help me decide for my second visit. I had Tanya (Assisstant Manager) as my consultant.

- Tanya was lovely, sweet, and made me feel completely comfortable. I was so impressed with her customer service, if you can ask for her, please do! I showed her what I wanted, she not only showed me one of the same dresses but brought me dresses she thought would look best (which they did)

I had previously gone to davids bridal and found a few dresses I really liked.
I had been told that sometimes it's a good idea to look around a bit at a few stores to try and see if maybe you fall in love with another dress somewhere else.
On a Wednesday morning 11am-ish, my friend and I stopped off at Sophie's Gown Shoppe so I could try on some dresses.
I walked up to the counter where 3 employees were standing and asked if I could try on some dresses. One asked if I had an appointment and I said no, she looked so startled! Heaven forbid

This review is not intended to slander all the employees of Sophie's Gown Shoppe, however, it should be noted that there is ONE particular employee (I never get her name, probably because she knows she's an awful person) who is absolutely rude and makes the entire experience stressful and unpleasant.
