After a long career as a Medical Cytotechnologist, Shelley got certified as a Personal Trainer in 2009 to indulge her passion for fitness and helping others. Over time, her focus has changed from training younger clients, interested mainly in aesthetics, to training middle-aged and mature clients who are more concerned with improving their "do-ability" or function in everyday tasks or recreational activities.
Because you hate to be lost in the crowd and feel anonymous or 'like a number'. We offer 30 minute sessions for Foundations, Beginner and general Small Group and cap them at 6 participants, maximum. Higher level HIIT and Bootcamp sessions are capped at 8 and 10, respectively. You'll get individual attention and our trainers can modify exercises for any limitations you may have.
Our trainers will develop an exercise plan customized to your needs and goals. Whether you want to lose fat, build muscle or train for an epic trip of a lifetime, we can help you get there! Discuss past injuries, body limitations, and any health history pertinent to your training program. Grow relationships with each client so that they feel supported, motivated and held accountable.
Periodically throughout the year, we offer gentle yoga, independent workshops on MELT (Myofascial Energetic Length Technique), and other subjects. These courses are provided at an additional cost as they are separate from our regular small group training (although some are FREE) and are available with or without a studio membership.

Focused on delivering to middle age to old people- trainers here are specifically qualified with FAI (functional aging Institute) certification which greatly enhance their capability to create & conduct programs for the older age group. Very homely quaint space with clients that feel as family along with the trainers. come in to feel the difference

I had been looking for a good exercise place. My sisters always boasted of their yoga instructors and instructions but I just couldn’t seem to get into yoga full time. I heard about Proactive and that it included more mature people. I attended one free session and I was hooked. After signing up for three times a week program I told my sisters, “ I have found MY yoga!”
The owner is constantly trying to improve and update the most optimum programs designed for older and not so old people and to provide enthusiastic, capable, fun, caring trainers. The atmosphere is one of acceptance, camaraderie

I became a Proactive Fitness Member in February 2020 after participating in a 6 Week New Year’s Resolution Re-Boot Challenge. I enjoy the challenging workouts 3 times a week either in studio or via Zoom from the comfort of my own home. I like working with the talented trainers who offer just the right amount of motivation and encouragement to keeping you working hard. The functional movement of my shoulders and hips have improved significantly since I started and my core has never been stronger. Highly recommend giving Proactive Fitness a try!

Proactive Fitness has been a life changer for myself and 5 friends from rural Saskatchewan. Shelley and her team were happy to accommodate our specific needs. They set us up with a session every 2 weeks, that we can then do from home. We have our own Facebook page for encouragement and questions. The team continues to assess our individual needs and help us meet our goals of health and strength. We are moving into our 3rd year of working with Shelley and the Proactive team and couldn’t be happier with the results

I have no hesitation about giving Shelley and her team at Proactive Fitness a very positive review. I joined the gym about a year and a half ago and have enjoyed working with all the trainers. They are very knowledgeable and able to adapt any of the exercises to the needs of their clients. -Knee, hip, back, shoulder issues - they can all be accommodated. The groups are small- 6- so we all receive attention and support. It is all about functional fitness and ageing well. When gyms shut down in March Shelly and her staff quickly made the shift to online training using zoom. We now have the option

I'm so happy to be a member at ProActive Fitness. This is not like any other gym in Saskatoon. It's targeted at people like me - over 50, wanting to stay healthy and active. The classes are small, the trainers are professional and very knowledgeable, and the exercises are doable but effective. Now there's even the option to participate from home via Zoom, or go to the gym in person. I highly recommend this gym.

I so appreciate ProActive Fitness, the trainers excel at adaptions so we are getting the most out of our session while doing so safely. I’m someone who has numerous concerns that the trainers always take into consideration. I have several sessions to choose from throughout the day, I can choose to do each exercise sitting or standing.

I can’t thank Shelley and the trainers enough for encouraging and supporting me through my fitness journey! It truly got me off the couch for the first time in a long time and helped me on my journey to better health! I appreciate that their programs cater to all ages and abilities and that they are always available if a person has questions.

I met Shelley Turk over 5 years ago and started to train with her. When she started her own studio, I moved there with her; in fact, was one of her clients who helped paint walls in the new location!
For me, Proactive Fitness has been a lifeline, through family loss, a knee replacement and now the pandemic. Not only am I stronger and more confident physically and mentally, I have had the blessing of making many new friends there.
