Sierra Sustainable Builders was founded by Cory Hannaford and Danny Webb, two lifelong friends who used their broad experience in the building trades as a means to travel and work in the most beautiful places in the world. After landing in Lake Tahoe in the late 1990s, Cory and Danny grew increasingly frustrated with the typical wasteful, inefficient approach to building and formed Sierra Sustainable Builders in 2002.
Sierra Sustainable Builders has since grown to a team of nearly 50 talented designers, builders, project managers, and support staff who work on a wide variety of challenging, interesting projects in the Tahoe basin and surrounding communities. The fragile alpine environment in which we live and work is a daily reminder that we all have a responsibility to tread lightly on this planet.

Sierra Sustainable is by far the most efficient and skilled contractors we have ever had the pleasure of hiring. We have completed over 50 projects over the last 20 years and the first sustainable construction project was the 968 Hotel in Lake Tahoe.

A "Passive House" is a home that has been built to exceed the highest standards for energy efficiency. Following this standard results in a ultra-low energy building that utilize a variety of elements to drastically reduce its ecological footprint. Buildings modeled after this concept save 60-80% compared to ordinary, code-compliant buildings.

As a professional who works from home plus remote locations, I am happy Sierra Sustainable Builders totally shares my vision for a great residence at Lake Tahoe. In collaboration with the architects, Cory Hannaford, President, met with me, took the time to develop a plan within my budget, and shared his extensive experience and ideas. SSB completed my project in advance of schedule and well within budget. At 1600 sf, my home feels amazingly spacious for working in the office, relaxing, and entertaining family and friends. Strategically placed windows give extraordinary views and admit solar energy

This review is long overdue. When I see the only other comment here, I can only conclude that the reviewer has not worked with Sierra Sustainable. Corey, Danny and their team accomplished a complicated project for our family, guiding an Old Tahoe home into the modern era. The dramatic hybrid design required significant know-how where the modern glass elements were concerned, and they showed genuine commitment to the preservation of the historical elements. They finished the job on time, despite working through the hardest winter Tahoe had seen in many years. Their attention to detail was impeccable
