Elm Electronics is a Canadian company that has been selling integrated circuits on the web since 1998. The introduction of the PIC12C508 by Microchip Technology really was our incentive to create a line of products that previously were not possible, and if they were would typically require several support chips and external components.
From simple 'glue' logic, we then progressed to protocol converters, our LANC and OBD ones being the most popular. In 2005, we introduced the ELM327 integrated circuit, which was able to automatically detect and converse with all of the standard OBDII protocols. It remains our most popular product to date.

Services
If you have questions about ordering (do you ship to my country, do you offer quantity discounts, etc.), have you looked at our ordering faqs page? Although we generally cater to the small purchaser, we wouldn't want to pass up any opportunities to ship larger volumes! If you have any inquiries as to large volume shipments then write to us at this address.
We do not make or sell any supporting hardware, circuit boards, cables, or evaluation kits, but do offer some links to companies that do. You will find these links throughout the help pages of this site. All of our products are offered in either a plastic dual inline package (PDIP) for through-hole applications, or in a small outline integrated circuit (SOIC) style for surface mounting.
These are what can be called 'glue' chips. We have circuits that do such things as drive piezo buzzers and LEDs, debounce mechanical switches, and provide timing signals. These devices support connecting to various systems. Our most popular items are for interpreting infrared remote control signals, and Control L (or LANC) signals.
Our 'OBD Interpreter' integrated circuits are designed for use with vehicles that use the standard OBDII (On Board Diagnostics) protocols. Most modern vehicles use the CAN (ISO 15765-4) protocol, but yours may not. If you are unsure of what protocol your vehicle uses, see the information in the 'OBD' section, under the 'Help' menu.
This product group caters to needs around the home (ICs for security, audio, video, and home automation are typical). These circuits add functionality to your cameras and camcorders. The ELM303 and the ELM624 both use the LANC standard to talk to camcorders and some still cameras, while the ELM307 was created with only still cameras in mind.
