The company was established in 1975 when Frank Lafontaine, an experienced machine operator, started the business with his three sons in Saint-Malachie, renting heavy machinery by the hour, mainly to farmers. In 1982 the eldest son, Frankie, took over the family business and decided to reposition it as a general contracting firm.
In 1990, Les Excavations Lafontaine Inc. moved to the industrial park in Sainte-Claire, a location that would give them greater visibility and help their retention of personnel. In the intervening years, the company has either expanded or added buildings seven times and acquired several gravel banks and quarries.
