Since being established in 1973 by founders Frank and Elsie Van Bree, Birnam has seen considerable growth throughout decade to decade. Expanding from a history in municipal drainage, Birnam became well sought after for our ability to work efficiently in difficult and complicated situations, specializing in solutions in the quicksand and swamp drainage industry.
In the mid 80's, an eager and ambitious son Mark and his wife Teresa came on board and Birnam quickly expanded into the sewer, watermain and road building industry. Thanks to our founders, Frank and Elsie, a strong foundation was formed at Birnam. With Mark and Teresa on board as the second generation, a commitment to teamwork, and dedication to quality and service has been "a tradition since 1973".

Services
Our Heavy Civil Division is our core service and handles a variety of sewer, watermain and road construction projects while ensuring they are completed safely, efficiently and professionally. Our General Contracting Division works with mechanical systems, process works, water and wastewater, and general infrastructure projects.
Birnam has grown in knowledge, experience and ability through the successful completion of various new and re-construction projects within small towns and cities. We build clean water and sewage distribution systems, and upgrade municipalities with new subdivisions, streets, sidewalks, lighting and landscaping.
In the last few years, Birnam has been incorporating a more solid focus into the General Contracting industry, specializing in strong Project Management. Our General Contracting Division works with mechanical systems, process works, water and wastewater, and general infrastructure projects.
These include water treatment facilities, pump stations, process piping, retrofits and rebuilds, as well as state of the art lagoon aeration systems, new buildings and a variety of structures.In the last couple of years, this division has expanded under the guidance of Phil Coeck due to his extensive expertise.

At Birnam, we take environmental challenges very seriously. In recent years, environmental awareness has become a strong priority. We are very proud and confident in our handling of environmental issues. In almost every project, we encounter factors that influence and potentially disrupt the local and natural environment.
Birnam Excavating Ltd. is currently recruiting for: Foreman, Mechanic, Field Operators, Field Labourers. A contract to upgrade part of the Tavistock wastewater treatment plant was awarded by county council to Birnam Excavating Ltd. The project, which will cost about $1.25 million after HST, . Plans to relocate a sanitary pump station - currently located in the staging area in front of Chatham Fire Station No. 1 - and replace it with a new one.
