Services
Nestled on the shores of Stuart Lake, The View in Fort St. James is a 62-room hotel designed with the tourist or business traveller in mind. Each room has access to free WiFi, a flat-screen TV complete with premium HD channels, and of course a brand new king or queen bed. Opened in March of 2013, The View in Fort St. James is the first and only hotel in the area.
Our greatest feature, of course, is our fantastic view of Stuart Lake and the surrounding mountains. The rooms are fully equipped kitchenettes and also feature table and chairs for extra convenience. The View Hotel is now offering some pet friendly rooms on the second floor only. We accept cats and dogs only and they must be registered with the front desk ahead of time.
Our on-site restaurant is closed at this time. The new kid on the block, Medo's Coffee Cabin is serving up specialty coffees and lattes and fresh baked treats. Wish I could post a photo of their yummy looking scones. You will need to see for yourself. Location: 371 Stuart Drive West. Visit facebook page.
Fort St. James National Historic Site is a restored Hudson's Bay Company post on the southern shores of Stuart Lake. It is commemorated as a centre of trade and commerce in the 19th century fur trade. Originally established by Simon Fraser for the North West Company in 1806, this place displays the largest group of original wooden buildings representing the fur trade in Canada.
Fort St. James' unique setting on the south shore of beautiful Stuart Lake opens up a world of outdoor recreation. Our forests provide a vast expanse of wilderness for you to discover. Winters offer a million opportunities for fun and the summers are beautiful in our area. With 30 trails totaling 22 kms and a vertical drop of 518 metres, Murray Ridge is a fantastic hill for skiers and boarders of all abilities.

We enjoyed our 4 night stay at the View. The hotel is beautifully furnished. The rooms are mostly spacious, and the bed mattresses sturdy. Unfortunately, we could hear everything that the loud couple next door said. The front desk staff were very accommodating and we were able to move to a different, very quiet room. We were very impressed with the service at the front desk. It was important to them that we were as comfortable as possible. The housekeeping staff were also nice and approachable. The hotel restaurant was closed due to covid. We would not hesitate to recommend the hotel. The only

If I could rate it zero stars I would. Terrible stay. The hotel staff was not helpful. On top of having to ring a doorbell to get in, after driving ten-hours we had to wait on staff to complete our checkin reservation. In addition, on a record setting hot day in Canada, the a/c in the hotel/rooms not being used was off and my room was a cool 37 degrees when I checked in. After calling the front desk, they said there was nothing they could do about it and apologized for forgetting to turn it on. Just a miserable experience. Would not recommend staying here.

THE VIEW HOTEL is a very beautiful Hotel to stay at All my prior visits there, I was treated fairly and all my questions and concerns were answered clearly ! The rooms are so cozy, staff are friendly and the blankets, beds and furniture are all comfortable! Especially now that the days are getting colder and shorter! I would definitely recommend friends of friends to stay at this Hotel!! Nothing but a good review from me is all I can say was a very welcoming visit

Remarkable gem in such a dire looking town. No continental breakfast for the price was disappointing, it really doesn't take much to count patrons the night before and do something. TV not working, but did offer a small credit. Staff seemed lacking enthusiasm for the job, however, nice rooms, very clean!

Seems as though the inside has been recently renovated. Room was clean despite a couple dead spiders hanging from the ceiling. The wifi was not good. It kept disconnecting or was just so slow I gave up. Also when I put the hot water on, it was so hot I yelled out in pain. Be careful, use the cold side to be safe. Nice views if you have a room overlooking the lake. Wasnt many people around outside n the street when we were there, it was like a ghost town. I found that odd. This is pretty much the only hotel in Fort. St James, I would most likely not stay here again.

The room I got is quite big. Tall ceilings. Seems to be recently renovated and in good shape. Full kitchen in the room is nice. The view is really nice. The restaurant is decent and they offer a bagged lunch service but it's not worth the cash. Overall though it's a pretty decent place for Fort St James, I'll definitely be using this place on again on my next trip to this town.

Best hotel in town! This place has descent rooms which are kept clean, spacious parking for bigger cars or trucks, excellent restaurant and is reasonably priced. Whenever you have to stay overnight in Fort Saint James, I recommend paying few dollars more but staying in The View. This place definitely gets my recommendation!
