Shanti Estate Law
Shanti means "peace of mind, " which is what I like to bring to my clients as the owner and sole practitioner of Shanti Estate Law - a boutique law firm located in Hamilton, Ontario, that specializes in Wills and Estates. We all want what's best for our loved ones, yet we delay and put off planning a Will for another day. My heart-centered approach makes the process easy and comfortable. I can help you take this important item off the "to-do" list and give you the peace of mind that you've planned for your loved ones.
Services
Making a Will can bring you peace of mind because you've taken care of your loved ones. Having a Will in place will relieve your loved ones of the added burden of administering an intestate estate while grieving their loss. Having a Will in place can help you live life more fully by alleviating the stress and worry caused by not having a plan in place.
A Will, also called a "Last Will and Testament" is a legal document that states your final wishes. In other words, a Will is the document where you state who will be the Estate Trustee, 'who receives what' of your estate ie. Powers of Attorney are legal documents that delegate your decision making authority to someone else.
First, it makes a difficult time less difficult. You've taken the time to set out your wishes, which means your loved ones have a road map to follow after you've passed away. Second, YOU get to make all the decisions.

You decide who your executor/estate trustee is; you decide 'who-gets-what'; you decide who you want to look after your minor children; you decide who takes over your business; you can even decide to provide for your favourite charity. And third, you're giving yourself the gift of peace of mind. Live your life to the fullest, safe in the knowledge that you've planned for your future and the future of your loved ones.
In Ontario, each person needs to have their own Will, even if you and your spouse have matching estate plans. A guardianship appointment made in a Will only lasts for 90 days. Within that time, your chosen guardian(s) will need to submit a court application for full custody of your minor children. We can set up a testamentary trust with a staggered distribution.
In Ontario, it's possible for an individual to have multiple Wills, usually call Primary and Secondary Wills. You may wish to create a multiple Will estate plan if you own a private corporation. Creating your estate plan in this way could save your estate a significant amount of money. Book a consultation to see if this type of estate plan is right for you.

Amelia is such a pro when it comes to preparing estate documents. She's also excellent when communicating with those unfamiliar with the process.
When my father passed she was on top of everything for me so I could spend more time supporting the rest of my family. I am so thankful for her leadership and guidance.
She even made a house call to help get documents promptly signed by my mother. She goes way beyond what I expected and made everything so easy. Thank you!!
