Services
However, if you have been using chemical fertilizers or have a neglected lawn, we are happy to perform this service for you. Very hard and clay soils need to be opened-up; to allow it to breathe- to allow better root growth, and to allow rain and water to seep down deeply into the soil layers. All the "life" in the soil, (beneficial microbes, bacteria, fungi), need plenty of oxygen to thrive.
What is Core Aeration? Core Aeration combats soil compaction by punching holes through the thatch layer of your lawn and removing small plugs of soil. This increases the surface area of the lawn, and promotes exchange of gases with the atmosphere. Consequently this action promotes the population of aerobic microbes who need this oxygen, to break down organic material in the soil.
One of the ways in which Healthy Soil is judged is by the wide variety of beneficial micro-organisms within it. There are thousands of different kinds of good microbes, bacteria and fungi; each having a specific role to play in creating healthy plants. Some break down nutrients into a usable form, some defend against insect pests, some remedy diseases and harmful molds, some attack bad bacteria, etc.
Landscape Gypsum (calcium sulphate) has long been known to be a "Clay Buster". It opens up old hard soil - allowing rain, lawn watering, and air to reach deeper down into the soil layers. Gypsum actually does a better job of "aerating" your soil than conventional aerating, all without the messy plugs all over your lawn!
