Dr. Rick has been in veterinary practice full time for over 20 years. He graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 2000, at which time he received an Award for Outstanding Achievement in Clinical Small Animal Medicine from the College. Even in those early years, Dr. Rick's gentle demeanor and accomplished bedside manner was noticed by his clinical Professors and Internists.
Pet insurance pays, partly or in total, for veterinary treatment of the insured person's ill or injured pet. Some policies will pay out when the pet dies, or if it is lost or stolen. As veterinary medicine is increasingly employing expensive medical techniques and drugs, and owners have higher expectations for their pets' health care and standard of living than previously, the market for pet insurance has increased.
There is no such thing as risk-free anesthesia, however we make it our priority to keep that risk as low as possible. We do this by developing an individual anesthetic plan for each of our patients. This will typically include a premedication to help relax your pet before the procedure, as well as a smooth induction into general anesthesia.
Dental care is vital to the overall health of any animal. Many pet owners are not aware of the importance of dental care to their pet's physical health. There are a lot of different ways to improve your pet's dental hygiene, including home brushing, dental chews, and regular inspection. The most effective way to protect your pet from dental disease is through professional cleanings.
Dermatology is the field of study that is related to treating and diagnosing diseases related to the skin. We offer a wide range of diagnostics for skin concerns such as in-house cytology, intradermal skin testing, immunotherapy, and nutritional consulting. We examine at your pet's medical history and environmental aspects to piece together and treat all kinds of dermatological conditions.

We had to put our cat of 19 years down and the Big Rock staff were very caring and compassionate. We also brought our dog in for a small procedure and there was a misunderstanding in regards to cost. The situation was resolved quickly and professionally which was much appreciated by us. Thank you. We would certainly recommend Big Rock Animal Clinic.

This clinic is the best! Dr. Lise Tellier is so kind, compassionate, and knowledgeable. She really went above and beyond for us when we came in yesterday. Juniper was due for her third set of vaccinations and checkup but Dr. Lise also took time to ask us how Juniper is doing and gave us lots of amazing advice. We could tell that she truly cares about our puppy Juniper and she gave us so much valuable advice and guidance that we are very grateful for.
She also is extremely understanding when it comes to the cost of a pet without pet insurance and doesn't try to push anything costly or unnecessary

Our dog Harley had dental surgery last week. The staff answered all questions we had with no judgement regarding our concerns. They called the following day to check in with us and offered support. I felt so comfortable with the doctor and staff's ability to treat and care for our dog. I would recommend this place to everyone!

Dr. Rick and his team took wonderful care of our dog, Eve, for 13 years. We could have easily gone to a clinic within Calgary but the quality of service and care provided at Big Rock made it an easy choice to make the drive out to this clinic. Thank you for taking care of our old girl!

We love Dr Rick and all the staff at Big Rock Animal Clinic. They are compassionate, knowledgeable and you never feel rushed. They take the time to answer all your questions and concerns. Would recommend to anyone especially if you are looking for a clinic where you can establish a care routine for your pet with one vet instead of taking a chance on who might be available.

I would like to thank the clinic for giving our beloved tabby, Minou, a new lease on life. A few months ago he began to have trouble walking and so we took him to Big Rock where he was diagnosed with feline diabetes. It was recommended to change his diet and start giving him insulin injections. The vet assured us that he could live a long life with… this treatment. To be honest, I was a little skeptics about this claim, but followed the treatment anyway. The result was a miraculous transformation. He now has more energy than ever and it is almost a pleasure to hear him racing around the

Dr Rick and his staff are absolutely fantastic! They are so very genuine, knowledgeable, compassionate, understanding and patient.
Dr Rick was so great with helping us through a very difficult few months with our boy Rowdy and his brave battle with cancer. We are very thankful for him. He made the transition so peaceful and loving.
Now we are starting all over with our new generation American Lab Dallas Jasper (DJ) who is joining his new brother our Great Dane Hank and the chase is on with his other fur brother Moe the cat!! But the future looks bright and we are so thankful for our extended

We are new to the area and have been seeking a new vet for our little morkie. We had gone to a different clinic earlier this week that had outstanding reviews, but our experience was far from outstanding and ended up being a very poor experience and a clinic we would not return too. How delightful it was/is to find this clinic on our second… attempt.
