It keeps the fine sand locked in to keep the asphalt smooth in appearance, it extends the life of your asphalt, prevents cracking and of course keeps it look new and clean. Driveway sealing is best to be done in early spring to late fall.

Asphalt is an engineered product made of crushed stone and tar (Bitumen or other petroleum products) which bind the two together. It is heated to 300F and applied at that temperature. When it cools it becomes a hard surface. This is especially true here in Ottawa where we have cold winters which drive the frost deep into the earth below, which causes the asphalt above to heave.

Be careful when hiring these "professionals" We are getting a decent amount of calls in the last 2 years from their past customers, to go fix their driveways as the company itself is ignoring the complaints. The driveways are rough looking, when the driveway is 1-2 years old it should not have low spots where the water accumulates and it should not be cracking. There is a lot of rough areas where they hand rake to much, leaving only the rocks on the surface, no sand, which results in the asphalt not being properly waterproof. The edges are also not compacted on an angle, they just leave them rough

We had issues with CanArk changing the original agreed upon quote for additional amount. After back and forth discussions they agreed to honoured the original estimate and they will proceed with the work as planned.
I think this shows that they really try to satisfy their customers and they keep it honest.
Work is not done yet but we are looking forward to see the results.

I had my driveway repaved by Canark in May 2019. The job was well done. This winter, I noticed a few small holes that appeared in the driveway, cause unknown. When the spring was here, I contacted Canark and made them aware lf the problem. After many exchanges, they came over and fixed the holes. They also provided me with a complimentary sealing of the entire driveway, which was a nice touch and professionnally executed. The cause of the holes in the driveway was never discovered for sure but it is fixed now to my satisfaction. The reason I do not give 5 stars to Canark is because the

Just had been waiting for 10 months for those guys to finally finish their work we have been already paid in full last year. Nobody still show up.
CanArk did the interlock porch and interlock area in front of our garage doors. They also built stones walls around the culvert. Everything was done last fall. Job wasn’t completely finished and they… left quite a few “minor things” (as they call it) behind. They didn’t enforce edges of paving in the front of the garage properly so as a result after winter interlock became loose and we got big gaps (joints) . So we asked
