Smith Gerald A Funeral Home
Our local family owned funeral home was established by the late Gerald and Eleanor Smith in 1945. Michael Smith is the current President and Managing Funeral Director of the funeral home. Michael and his daughter Hope are lifetime members of the Harrow Community. Our goal is to make you feel comfortable, welcome and provide your family with service that makes you feel like you are family and at home.

Please feel free to browse our pages to learn more about pre-planning a funeral and grief support, as well as the traditional funeral and cremation services that we have to offer. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us at anytime, we are available by phone or e-mail, or drop by the office in person.
Services
Gerald A. Smith graduated from the Canadian School of Embalming in 1938. They founded our funeral home in 1945 in a home purchased from Warren F. Hendershot. The original owner and presumed builder, Gordon Ferriss built the home in the late 1890's. The home was remodeled into a funeral home and established Essex County's first 24 hour ambulance service outside the City of Windsor.
Staff members of Gerald A Smith Funeral Home are caring and experienced professionals who understand that each family is unique and has personal requests and traditions. These requests and traditions are of utmost importance to all our staff. Our dedicated and supportive staff are here to guide you through this difficult journey.
At Gerald A. Smith Funeral Home we like to offer an opportunity for you to ask us any questions that you may have about funerals, funeral planning or a current / past service that we provided. Your questions will remain confidential and we will only contact you by your preferred method. You may also feel free to contact us directly, in person or by phone, any time of the day.
Family and friends getting together to honor a loved one's life is one of the most important steps in the grieving and healing process. You may opt to have a traditional religious or military service, or as more and more people are doing, you can choose to have a non-traditional 'life celebration'.
No matter if a death is sudden, or if it something that was a long time coming, the loss of a loved one makes us feel emotional and overwhelmed. No amount of preparation can fully prepare you for the loss of a loved one. When you are in a heightened emotional state, even the most basic decisions can seem staggering.

I have been so incredibly impressed with the compassionate, extraordinary service extended to me by Michael and Hope at Gerald A Smith Funeral Home, after the passing of my dad recently. They have been responsive on a daily, and sometimes, on an hourly basis, and helped me with every single detail during an emotionally difficult time. I recommend them most highly! Thank you.
