Get help with tasks like grocery-shopping and doctor's appointments with the added benefit of companionship. A serious illness does not remove an individual's right to dignity, respect, and supportive care. Assistance with everyday tasks like cleaning and cooking can help ease the burden of elderly clients and caregivers alike.

Services
The majority of private home care agencies in BC are chains or franchises. Their high administration, overhead, advertising costs, and franchise fees are passed on to the client. Their rate mark-ups are 150% or more. Unique Home Health Care, as a private independent company, has low expenses and no franchise fees, allowing for flexibility to customize rates.
What You Need to Know About the Home Care Industry in British Columbia and Why We Are "UNIQUE". The most common misconception about the private home care industry in British Columbia is that the industry is government regulated and licensed. There is the assumption private agencies are licensed, must abide by strict hiring policies and carry comprehensive liability insurance coverage.
This option is the poorest with sometimes tragic consequences. Falls, accidents, home fires, over/under medication and sadly sometimes, even death can occur. Families and friends initially have good intentions. Today's family, as well as friends, lead busy lives with little time available to take on the responsibility of providing the daunting task and time required for in-home care.
Private facilities are all about "show" but not "care." When placed, the client, of course, has to follow the rules of the home. There is very little mental and physical stimulation. Outings have to be arranged by family and friends. Meals and bedtime are set. There is little or no flexibility. Private facilities do not have to be inspected or certified by the health authority if kept under nine occupants.
As our parents or grandparents age and reach the later stages of life, family members often feel obligated to assist with normal, everyday tasks they now struggle with. While it's not always immediately clear when ageing begins to affect your loved one, small things can combine to create a larger challenge in a rapid fashion.

While acting as Power of Attorney for a now-deceased female relative, who in her late 90s wished to remain in her home rather than move to a care facility, I arranged home care via Unique Home Health Care, operated by Marsha Todd. The care provided was originally daily part-time personal care, which included preparation of meals and housekeeping duties; however, with the client's advancing age and increasing care needs over a period of several years, 24-hour-care was eventually provided.
The level of care provided by a number of staff members was of the highest quality and the client came to appreciate

I engaged Unique almost 4 years ago to assist a relative in staying in her home following a lengthy hospital stay. The staff who were assigned to her were competent, engaging and attentive to her needs...also helping her to experience things she would not otherwise enjoy. The staff, under Marsha's leadership, have and continue to deal with some difficult situations. Marsha's experience in this business over 20+ years is really invaluable when the going gets tough! I appreciate and value Marsha and her team.

A huge financial supporter of the Duncan Showroom, she also attends many concerts without prior knowledge of the performance bringing her utmost attention and praise and always along with a guest ....a true supporter of the arts, she sponsors weeks of Lunch in the Park series, part of the 39 Days of July Music Festival in downtown Duncan...the longest music festival of its kind in the world

I have been using Unique for the past several years for on-call care with a client in the area. Unfortunately, as Marsha becomes more and more busy and moving into 24-hour care rather than on-call care, scheduled staff replacements could not fulfilled. A disappointment as I had to scramble at the last minute to fill in a replacement which was pre-scheduled and confirmed at least a week prior to the date requested only to find out the day before that she did not have us on the schedule.
