Cheney's Zen Karate Kickboxing

Cheney's karate studio is an awesome place to learn martial arts. I'd highly reccomend them to anyone looking into getting into karate or kickboxing. There is always a high level of professionalism and respect here while still maintaining fun and learning.

Coming onto my 7 year of doing karate here, and I plan to continue training for many more. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that has any fitness, discipline or other kinds of goals. Sensei Cheney is a great instructor who has helped me reach many goals.

When you begin karate or are putting your children in karate you want a place that will both teach you the traditional aspects of karate but also prepare for the brutal world. Sensei Lyle Cheney does both. I have been in this Dojo for 10 years and have learnt so much from him. Karate keeps you active and helps protect yourself. Cheney’s is the best karate place in red deer indefinitely. I would 100% recommend.

The payment plan for our 6 year old trainee leaves a lot to be desired. Unfortunately the training season does not follow the school year. We were told a year commitment, after a short introductory period, is common with karate studios and dance studios (it's not). Dance Magic follows the school season, finals are in May, we find out now. Our little guy decided karate wasn't for him in Jan, he stuck it out until June, declined to return after the summer holidays. Unfortunately we committed to one year last November, tough. Recommend doing research to find best fit.

Im thankful to this dojo. It makes my son healthier physically and mentally. He enjoys his classes with his friends and the discipline is very good. Highly recommended.

From the get go, Sensei Cheney was very accomodating with all my questions. Have only completed 2 classes, however the patience level with him and sensei Brian is very refreshing. It fosters a great learning environment. They do not allow you to cut corners and teach with excellence and pride. I am looking forward to the many classes and years to come.
