In Ontario, if you are involved in a car accident, you are entitled to pursue compensation in two ways, by claiming accident benefits through your own auto insurer (regardless of fault) and, if you are not at fault, you may also sue the at fault party fro other damages. If you intend to sue, you must start your claim within 2 years of the date of the accident.
In general, a "slip and fall" accident refers to situations where a person is injured by slipping, or tripping, and falling due to a dangerous condition on another persons' premises. When you enter or step onto someone's property, the owner has a legal responsibility to ensure that the property is reasonably safe and the person entering the property has a duty to exercise reasonable care.
In Canada we have an aging population and families are looking more and more towards nursing homes and assisted living centers for help with parents or grandparents who cannot live independently. Unfortunately every year, thousands of elderly people are abused, neglected and otherwise harmed in these types of places, despite the families' best intention to find a facility that is trustworthy and that can provide competent care.
As consumers, we have come to expect products that we buy to be safe and regulated. But when a product turns out to be defective or dangerous, you could end up with serious injuries. It is not uncommon for people to be seriously burned, disfigured, or killed by defective products or improperly installed and maintained items.
