Historical research is often the first step in building a custom ship model. Sometimes drawings of the vessel have survived; this may be particularly true for Navy ships, not so much for merchant vessels. Depending how far back in time we go, the information becomes sparse and much harder to find, if there's even anything to be found!

The plans are easy to read, and each individual part has been thoughtfully designed to create a truly beautiful finished model that is true to time period and construction. I look forward to building more of his models in the future.'
The United States frigate President was one of the "super-frigates" commissioned by the U.S. Congress, causing the British some headaches in the war of 1812. The model shown here has her yards in the raised position since she will carry sails, however you may prefer no sails and the yards can be in lowered storm or rest position.
HMSV Simoom was an iron hulled (350 horse power steam engine) screw Frigate. Simoom served as a troop ship at the Crimea from 1854 to 1855, at Pei Ho fort in 1859 and at Ashantee from 1873 to 1874. She was sold to Norwegian interests in 1887. The Admiral Class model shown here was built for a client whose forefathers travelled and immigrated to Canada as 'extra' passengers on the British troopship HMS Simoom.
