Rouge Gallery
Rouge Gallery has transitioned from an original art gallery viewing space to a virtual gallery without walls. We still operate the same as a traditional gallery would, but instead of having a physical venue to view the artwork - come on here to see everything in one portal! Our catalogue of emerging and established Canadian artists is constantly being updated to provide our clients with the most recent art available.
Services
Our desire through Rouge Gallery is to gather the warm, creative spirit of artists and people who appreciate being surrounded by beauty in their lives. Supporting original artwork is another way to bring beauty into the world. Our urban landscape needs more of it, and we want people to find it at Rouge Gallery.
My earliest memories of the landscape are as a young child, standing with my father on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River, gazing out at the steep riverbank on the far shore and at the powerful, moving river. We went there often in the evening to give our Springer Spaniel a cool swim. When I began to paint the landscape I was immediately drawn to the riverbank and surrounding fields and to the memories of my childhood there.
My 'scenes of abstraction' reflect the strained dynamic between the hectic cadence of the urban landscape with our seemingly nostalgic desire to find singular focus and meaning in these surroundings. This 'constant flicker', this muse, is filtered through a lens of abstraction, of detail and form and the joy of moving paint across a canvas.
The essence of my work exudes places and visually appealing sites in the areas that I live and look at. My practice is motivated by shared experiences, memories, beauty, the Saskatchewan River, The Bessborough, the landscape and our homes. The Saskatchewan River and The Bessborough, in particular, are inspiring to me; because of the many experiences I have had with them and what they have come to mean to me.
I was born in the city of Calgary, Canada, in 1981. At the age of three, I left with my family to spend four years traveling through Sumatra. Later, I attended the Waldorf school in Calgary for nine years. The Waldorf method of pedagogy was founded by the artist Rudolph Steiner. Steiner believed that children should learn through their own experience.
