The Union Shoe store has been in the Mehos/Pappas family since 1929 when the Mehos brothers, Alex and George bought it upon their arrival from Greece. The shop's original location was at 924 Rosser Ave., where The Monacle Optician is now, and offered services for custom made shoes, repairs, shoe shine and blocking and cleaning hats.
In 1952 Constantine Pappas came to Canada and in 1958 Constantine, or Gus as his customers more commonly knew him, took over the shop upon Alex's retirement. Before taking over the shop Gus spent many hours quietly observing his father-in-law. Gus picked up the trade during those hours of quiet observation and is self-taught.

My wife and I attempted to go into the store and browse for new cowboy boots. We were unable to enter as the front door was locked, after a few minutes of waiting a clerk came and opened the door, and informed us that only 1 of us could enter. Looking through the windows it appeared there was only the clerk, no other customers. We will never go back to shop here ever with that kind of pathetic service. This was our first time going to this business and will definitely be our last!! We are fairly new to the Brandon area.

This review is for the Shoe Repair Shop below Union Shoes. The owner was very courteous and knowledgeable. I never felt like he was trying to rip me off, and I got the sense that he could probably repair anything related to leather, shoes, purses, bags, and even upholstery. He sells beautiful homemade belts and wallets out of his shop too. I ended up leaving with one of his money clip wallets. Gorgeous simplicity.

Nice selection of shoes - expensive. Went to the guy downstairs to get a nice military parade shoe shine for my boyfriend as a surprise. Said it wouldn't be a problem. Came back when ready...was not close to a parade shine. Guys told me well I didn't have the time so I just did a regular shine. Still charged me full price for something I didn't ask for

Very impressed with not only the assistance and service provided with my special needs daughter - but also how they spoke directly to her. While primarily non verbal, this can be challenging. My daughter appreciated it (as did I), responded to them in return - and loves her shoes. Very professional. Thank you for your help!
