Out of the 26 bones in a human foot, heel bone is the largest, known as Calcaneus. Researchers say that the stress placed on a foot while walking can be 1.25 times our body weight, and 2.75 times while running. Consequently, heel bone is vulnerable to damage and thus, pain. Plantar Fasciitis - One of the most common forms of heel pain.
Flat feet, as the name suggests, is the falling of arches making a full or almost full contact with ground when standing. Flat feet can occur when arches do not fully develop in childhood or from a general overuse that comes with age. The pain is generally felt in the inner arch, heel or ankle. When looking from the front, the inner ankle seems to be rolling in.
If the thickened skin (callus) is left untreated, it can become inflamed and painful. Therefore, it is very important to see a Foot Specialist (Chiropodist or Podiatrist) for an assessment early on. A widespread layer of thick skin is called Callus. When the pressure constantly builds up in concentrated part of the affected area, that could lead to the development of a hard corn.
A wart is a viral infection on the top layer of skin. When this infection appears on the bottom of the foot it is called a Plantar's (bottom) wart. Warts can be solitary or in multiples (mosaic warts). Most people will develop a wart(s) at some point in their life. There are many strains of virus, but the one causing warts on your feet are the human papilloma virus (HPV).
