House Of Kraft Orthopaedics, here in Ottawa, makes custom shoes directly to a plastercast taken of the patient's feet. The cast is modified to accommodate the individual needs of each person. A soft footbed is made to fully support the feet to insure comfort throughout the day. The leather uppers are then designed, sewn, and molded over the cast and footbed.
We all have essentially 7 points of contact with each foot to the ground. The heel, four metatarsal joints, and two sesamoid bones under the big toe metatarsal joint. All of these point have to bear our weight when we walk. When we run, that weight is multiplied several times. Orthotics help transfer that weight more evenly to the whole of the foot causing less stress to those 7 contact points.
All foot orthotics are made on site to a positive plastercast taken of each patient's feet. They are made using raw materials, and depending on their needs, are made of either neoprene crepe, plastic, or soft closed-cell foam. Wheather bracing is required for sports or a disability, our specialists are trained to accurately measure and fit over-the-counter braces, or if required, manufacture custom braces.
