Welcome to the largest producer of hydroponic cucumbers in North America. We are a fully integrated operation that grows and packages high quality cucumbers year-round. All levels of our staff work together as a unified team to ensure we are providing top quality product and the best customer service possible.
Services
Great Lakes Greenhouses is the largest grower, shipper, and packer of hydroponic cucumbers in North America. We are a 118-acre state-of-the-art facility on one site. This allows us to provide year-round production to service all our customers needs. Our mandate is to produce the healthiest safest food.
Yellowing occurs from ethylene exposure. Keep cucumbers away from ethylene producing produce, such as tomatoes, and from ripening rooms. GLG is a 118-acre greenhouse farm on one site that produces over 4.9 million dozen cucumbers per year. High temperatures cause seedless cucumbers to become soft, while cold temperatures will cause them to decay rapidly.
A solution of nutrients is mixed and is then poured over the blocks multiple times. The dry blocks start out weighing 62 grams and after we soak them they end up weighing around 700 grams! After seeding, we move the blocks to the greenhouse to continue the growth process. Each block is equipped with an individual dripper which releases a nutrient mixture providing the plants with food supply.
Organics is all about a food cycle that cares about the environment and people. In 2019 we significantly increased our organic production by adding 28 acres, bringing our total Organics to 32 acres. In 2020 we introduced Organic Mini Eggplant into our line-up. Now in 2021 we have planted Organic Tomatoes on the Vine and Bell Peppers.
All our energy at Great Lakes Greenhouses is generated on-site to reduce our carbon footprint. Our co-generation system produces all our energy and the excess heat that is produced is captured and used to heat the greenhouse. By integrating our state-of-the-art co-generation system, we can secure our base loads of electricity and thermal demands efficiently while decreasing energy costs and reducing the emissions of greenhouse gases.

I have had the pleasure working together with Great Lakes Greenhouse, and getting to know the staff and owner's over the past few years. The owner is an amazing individual and cares about every person who works there and every inch of his greenhouse. The care is reflected back by his staff who put there heart into the farm as much as he does and it shows in their product. They stick to what they are good at and they produce over 120 acres of cucumbers, truly an amazing facility and a great tasting cucumber. I only wish the best and many more years of success for Great Lakes.
