We offer a couple of different sail plans, including the gaff jib and main rig shown here on a 26-foot loa Seine dory. Boats can also be outfitted for outboard or even inboard engines. Working with our master builder, you and your classmates will construct a traditional Banks dory, beginning with raw lumber and culminating in a launch party and celebratory row.
Check our news section for upcoming courses. While we definitely have a soft spot for dories, we also build a variety of other classic wooden boats, including sailing dinghies, power skiffs and handsome rowing tenders like this one made for the Schooner Martha Seabury. Built by our parent company, Dawson Moreland and Associates, the 61-foot loa Martha Seabury was the first schooner to be launched on this historic waterfront in more than 30 years.

When I went to Lunenburg 2 years ago, one of the first places I headed for was the harbour, I was so delighted with the Dory shop I did a painting. Besides the Bluenose 11 which is of course an obvious tourist attraction, people want to see carpenters, boat builders, stuff that is real. That what I loved about it. If I did have to walk 2 miles from Blue Rock every morning to Tim Horton's passing by the lower road by the Dory shop was always a treat. Something new everyday,

I think the Dory Shop serves a vital function in todays world. The shop teaches woodworking skills which are fast becoming a lost art. It also teaches a group of interested people how to work together to achieve a common goal. I have visited the shop on three occasions, while on vacation in Nova Scotia from New Hampshire, and each time I have been amazed at the quality of the workmanship achieved through Jay's patience and willingness to share his skills with others.
