Federal Metals was started in 1950 by our founder, Herb Kraatz. It was a modest operation back then, with Herb picking up scrap metal from various shops and construction sites around the city before he would sort it and sell it. As the years wore on and the business grew, Herb's son Marvin Kraatz took over the company and oversaw Federal Metal's operations and growth.

While we would love to help you with any and all of your scrap materials, there unfortunately are some materials we can not accept. Rebar, steel cable, banding, barbed wire (these items are acceptable if chipped or cut to 6"- 8" pieces). Cans or containers that contain or did contain paint, sealers, pesticides or other toxic chemicals.
Federal Metals has been serving Calgary for over 70 years, finding ethical and environmentally friendly ways to recycle a wide range of metal products, but our skills and expertise stretch far beyond recycling.
