Susan Cook is a Certified Specialist in Parenting Coordination (FDRIO) an Accredited Family Law Mediator (OAFM) & Arbitrator, Child Protection Mediator, and she is Certificated in Children's Mental Health (UofT). Your mediator should be Accredited. This means that your mediator has been trained, but also held accountable for performance.
I do encourage you also to consider engaging with a non accredited mediator who is being supervised by an Accredited colleague to assist in the growth of the field of mediation to ensure a future where fewer families are participating in litigated separation/divorce. A mediator is only required a basic knowledge of the legislation and relevant Acts that your separation and divorce must rely on to reach a fair and equitable agreement.

Services
The effort of mediation is to provide an inclusive and empowering process that allows the parties to be a major player in making those important decisions that they are going to have to live with long term, rather than settle on what the lawyers agree to as a means to reach agreement.
It is statistically proven that mediated solutions, that are arrived at through discussion of best interests, are maintained without court involvement significantly more often than litigated agreements that tend to be "settled" on as opposed to mutually agreed upon. This is achieved through the knowledge that you control the process as well as the outcome.

Parenting Coordination has become an essential part of helping separating and divorcing families in conflict. Involvement generally begins after a Parenting Plan has been put in place through either litigation or mediation, yet clients have had great success in negotiating well with the assistance of a PC while litigating children's issues.
From both a professional and personal viewpoint, I believe that a combination of Mediation/Arbitration can be the most efficient and effective means of settling issues in a separation and/or divorce in the least amount of time for the least amount of money.
Beginning the process by mediating all of the issues that you are able to agree upon gives you the opportunity to make the choices that you both feel are in the best interest of your 'family' going forward, in cases where children are involved, for many years to come.

Divorce Coaching has become an integral part of the litigation process, and has proven to be more cost effective to include as a member of your team. In conjunction with your lawyer, the coach assists in reaching timely and effective outcomes and reducing stress by providing a needed component that your lawyer cannot provide, emotional support along with knowledgeable guidance through the process.
For over 4 years, Susan provided mental health assessments for ciminal and youth court for the purpose of mental health diversion prior to and in conjunction with her work in family court. Her experience with mental health issues and diagnoses has been extremely beneficial to assisting clients with their family issues.

We were hesitant to use Susan because of the one bad review but we took the chance because she is Certified Specialist with parenting. We both walked away feeling like we did the best job possible for our kids based on excellent advice. we had no issues with our finances being managed professionally and knowledgeably. Both lawyers were happy with the results.

We used Susan for marriage separation this year. There was quite an error made on our financial assessment which ended up costing us a significant amount of money in lawyers fees to rectify. We have attempted to reach out to Susan twice in the past 6 weeks to get a monetary reimbursement due to the mistake, however not one of our emails has been responded to. We would not recommend her services at all.
