Vital Aviation
Our practical approach to training provides a solid foundation of knowledge, decision-making, and piloting skills that are essential to success for any pilot, whether flying privately or commercially. The school has trained many high-quality pilots for commuter services, airlines, bush operators and the military.

Jonathan completed his Commercial Pilots Licence, Multi-IFR, Float Rating, and Flight Instructor Rating in the Lower Mainland and now lives and works on Vancouver Island. Originally from Ottawa, Ontario, Jonathan has a background in Mechanical Engineering and Project Management but decided to make a change in 2015 and move to the west coast to pursue a career in aviation.
Services
Vital Aviation was set up primarily to train the next generation of recreational, private, and commercial pilots with the knowledge that would enable them to keep themselves and their passengers safe. With the success of every student as our primary goal, we start by encouraging all students to start their training with Ground School and hold off on flight training until they have completed the first section of Ground School.
Whether your aim is to fly for fun or to become a career pilot, Private Pilot License (PPL) Ground School is the place to start your flight training. The more ground knowledge you have, the more likely you are to enjoy your flight training and feel confident with what you are doing once you're in the air.
As you start to build your knowledge and confidence through the PPL Ground School, your next step is to work towards the Private Pilot License (PPL). The PPL enables you to fly any Canadian-registered single-engine, land and non-high performance aircraft, as long as you are rated for the equipment you are flying.
There is no doubt that flight training is expensive. Just the cost alone of keeping an airplane in the air is high. It is always best to have budgeted for your training ahead of time so that money is not something you need to think about while you are doing your training. Remember, too, that you don't pay everything up-front.
The Night Rating on a Private Pilot Licence allows the holder to fly during the hours of darkness in visual meteorological conditions under Visual Flight Rules. There is no flight test or written exam. A VFR Over The Top Rating allows a licenced pilot to fly in Visual Flight Rules over a broken or overcast layer of cloud.

The people are phenomenal and Nanaimo is a great place to fly. It's a bit more expensive than learning at the flying club in Victoria but you get way more air time as it's a quick taxi to the runway. Flight services (the radio people) are really great too. You always feel they are looking out for you as a student. Much quieter airspace to practice yet it's only a short hop to busier Victoria. Can't say enough good things about my experience at Vital.
