Services
A standard exam will assess your refractive error and possible glasses prescription as well as the general health of the eyes and visual system. This includes a refraction, and slit lamp exam. Contact lens fittings and other health concerns may require additional time and testing on a more regular basis.
Dr. Bartelen has a Biological Sciences degree from the University of Calgary and graduated with his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University College of Optometry. He participates in yearly continuing education to advance his practice and better serve his patients. Dr. Bartelen has been living and practicing optometry in the Yukon since 2012 and plans to serve Yukoners for years to come.
Stable and low blood sugar levels are important to maintain the health of the retina. Dilated retinal assessments provide an insight into the general health of your vascular system throughout your body, not just your eyes. It is recommended that people managing diabetes be examined on an annual basis.
The information received by the eye travels to the brain through nerve fibers. If the nerve tissue becomes too thin portions of a person's vision can become diminished. It is important to assess the general condition of the nerve fibers as well as monitor the pressure of the eye to promote lasting vision.

Went to town in desperation, broke my glasses and had only prescription sunglasses left. l needed an eye exam ASAP in order to get new glasses. And Dr. B was there to help me immediately. Flexible in time and… all in all amazing, we got the eye exam done in no time and an hour later I got my new glasses and can see again! Wow! Such a relief! And aside of being able to see again, my kids also think I look like a female Harry Potter, which really elevates me in my choice of frames! :) Thanks Dr. Brett Bartelen for making this happen so fast and easy. Our family has had excellent experiences with Whitehorse Optometrist! Dr Bartelen is great with my kids. This year he patiently showed one of them how to put in contact lenses for the first time. He was awesome! Another thing I appreciate is that he answers all my questions and explains things in a way that is easy to understand.
