The first sawmill in Blind River, Ontario was built beside the mouth of the Blind River at the current site of the Old Mill Motel. The protected estuary of the east arm of the Blind River as well as the deep water offshore offered a good location for the mill. The sawmill provided timber and planks for the copper mine.
Blind River, a community of approximately 4000 people, is less than 2 hours away from either Sault Ste. Marie or Sudbury via The Trans-Canada (Highway 17) on the scenic North Channel of Lake Huron. Our beautiful natural surroundings are the envy of other areas, with hundreds of lakes and rivers ideal for fishing, wildlife viewing, camping, hiking, hunting, ATV and ski-doing.

Services
As part of Northern Ontario, we have much more to offer than just a room. The Old Mill Motel is located along the North Shore of Lake Huron, entrance of the provincial snow-mobile trail, giving you full access to the north, via snow-mobile. Also in the summer these trails can be used by ATV's for a great outdoor experience.

This place is a dump. I cannot think of a single good thing to say about the rooms themselves. Pillows as flat as paper. Rooms outdated. The bed wasn’t even level. My feet were higher than my head. Super old microwave. A coffee maker from the dollar store and no coffee in the room to make. Over $100 for the night and I am furious at what a dump this place is. The next night I stayed in Green Bay Wisconsin and for only $80 CND all inclusive I got a beautiful room with full breakfast included, swimming pool and hot tub. How Old Mill Motel is staying in business charging $100 for that run down dump

While they were able to accomdate us last minute, i would have rather drove the extra distance to anywhere else. The view from thw property is nice but the rooms themselves are outdated. The smoke detectors are no longer to code. The heat didnt work. A coffee maker with no coffee. A bed that slanted. 2 pillows that were flat. The shower was good but that is it. Peeling paint/wallpaper.
There was also zero salting or shovelling during the winter. It was icy!
We paid for a hotel in the US the next day for way less (in CDN), with a beautiful room, pool, hottub, breakfast.

Owners are unpleasant, especially the man. His wife was more sympathetic but he did not care AT ALL that my girlfriend just found out hours before that her missing sister had passed away and we were on our way to look for her. We were unable to sleep because of this shock and requested a bit more time to rest before our 12 hour drive home. His answer was " you pay more you can stay". Heartless and cruel, especially considering at least 90% of the rooms were empty.

Room not clean. Dust and cob webs over the curtain. Sand in the bathtub as well as on the floor. Bedspread was absolutely filthy. If it wasn't for the late-night check in I would have demanded my money back and slept in my truck! Sand in the tub coming from the water itself in the shower. Save yourself the grief and do not stay there!

Got stuck in Blind River where our other arrangements fell through. Naresh was very friendly and accommodating and tried very hard to get us rooms since we were travelling with a pet. She did that and even cut us a deal. The rooms were typical motel rooms but were immaculately clean and views were awesome. Would highly recommend this motel

Best motel and sleep I've stayed at/and had on our trip across Canada so far. This motel was cheap for location and view as it's right on the water front and a very friendly owner. No carpet in the suites is brilliant! Lots of amenities, a/c, king size bed, lots of room outside for kids, picknic tables, large parking spots for trucks with trailers (which we needed) a great place to stay!

Frank and Rita have been very accommodating hosts. My husband Is an essential worker who came to them looking for a place to park our camping trailer during his work in the area. They immediately welcomed us and provided a waterfront spot for our trailer to stay with hook up to power. This is exactly what we were looking for as a water hook up is not needed. When he’s not working he has been fishing hard steps away from the trailer. The location is absolutely beautiful and perfect for the avid fisherman/woman to cast lines! We cannot speak to what the rooms are like as we brought our own, but
