The primary focus of the AGW Collection is Canadian art. In its Canadian focus, the Collection is distinct from and complementary to that of our nearest public art museum neighbour, the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA). The scope of the AGW Collection reflects Canada's young political structure; it predates the formation of Canada as a nation (formed 1867) and continues to present day.
The Art Gallery of Windsor (AGW) is a non-profit public art gallery focused on presenting the visual arts of Canada. In the intervening years, it has become a cultural pillar situated in a premium and purpose-built downtown riverfront location overlooking the Detroit River and downtown skylines. The AGW is an award-winning organization known for its cutting-edge contemporary art program and Canadian art collections now approaching 4,000 works.
We acknowledge that in the past, the gallery has been elitist and inaccessible. We take this to heart, and we are dedicated to changing our policies, and our approach to our exhibitions and programs to create a welcoming visitor experience. Our staff and volunteers are working together to ensure the Art Gallery of Windsor is a space where all visitors feel welcomed and included.
The Art Gallery of Windsor harnesses the power of art to open minds and hearts to new ideas, perspectives and ways of thinking that inspire people to grow emotionally and intellectually. To transform the Art Gallery of Windsor into a community-driven art gallery for the 21st century. Reinvent how we work, operate, and interact with stakeholders through innovative approaches, tools, and technologies.
Abu Zaineh will be using these images and integrating them in installations that will include seeds cultivated from local community gardens. This new work by Jude Abu Zaineh will include bio-art installations, neon works, and photographs that parallel the experience of seed growth with migration: both undergo transplantation, and both can flourish in new terrains.

What a beautiful gallery. I went to an opening night and they were so organized in letting everyone in. I get the impression that opening nights are usually well attended. The work exhibited in all the floors was interested. I say, go and visit. Besides, it is proven that your blood pressure lowers when you visit an art gallery. There is an elevator -in case you are wondering. It has (three or four?) floors with ample room to move around.

This was an incredibly disappointing visit. I've never seen such a poorly curated collection. As well, it appears as though the staff, and the curator, have little to no experience in actual exhibition of work. The little work present is exhibited in dark rooms with any information on a specific piece being nothing short of a challenge to find. This was the most disappointing aspect of my visit to Windsor. 10/10 WOULD AVOID.

The museum part of the building is really intriguing and educational speaking as a historian and the third floor of the art gallery had some absolutely beautiful paintings. Didn't like some of the photography on the second floor but still really enjoyed it. The price of admission is also worth the experience.

I went here in a school field trip and loved it. There was this amazing view. I'm not sure if the school or the museum organized this, but we had to pick a piece of art and do a presentation on it. I did not very like that part. The art pieces and the way everything was placed made me feel welcome. I would definitely go back if I ever got the chance. If you are a fan or art go to this museum.

The main floor with the permanent exhibits is pretty cool. They go from ancient all the way to modern history. Definitely worth going just for that.
The upper floors art gallery is nice, but you'd need to be a fan of modern art to appreciate it. It might be different when you go, but when I went it was mostly full of clever photographs and art class type stuff.
They have a student discount on admission though, so that was nice.
