Two Whales is a small, independent coffee shop and restaurant overlooking Robin Hood Bay in the small township of Port Rexton on the Bonavista Peninsula. This is our 13th season in business and our reputation grows every year. We serve delicious, healthy vegetarian and vegan food and yummy cakes.
We use as much organic and/or locally sourced ingredients as we can, make and bake just about everything ourselves in our own kitchen and take great care in what we do.We also grow a wide variety of organic salads, vegetables, herbs and flowers in our own gardens. We have limited indoor seating (for 10).

Services
We are a small, family run, independent coffee shop and restaurant overlooking Robin Hood Bay in the small township of Port Rexton on the Bonavista Peninsula. According to many of our customers we serve the best espresso coffees on the island - we feel it is a combination of great beans (from Jumping Bean in St John's), our espresso machine, skill, our well water and a bit of Two Whales magic!
We aim to provide financial stability and prosperity for ourselves and our staff. We will provide fair, equal opportunity and properly paid employment and involve staff in all levels of the business. We aim to provide a range of teas, coffees, drinks, cakes and light, healthy meals using as much locally sourced, fairly traded and organically grown produce as is possible.
We grow all our own organic salad greens in our greenhouses and gardens. Currently this includes four types of heritage lettuce, kale, sugar snap peas and radishes/purple turnip. Our house salad is a mixture of fresh greens with our house dressing of organic olive oil and balsamic vinegar and our famous hand-cut coleslaw.
We are very excited to be able to share with you many of the coffee shop recipes and some of the stories around coming to this island, falling in love and setting up Two Whales. It has 224 pages printed in colour, is full of stunning photographs and illustrations and includes our most sought after recipes for soups, cakes, simple suppers, pats and gluten free treats-including 83 vegan recipes.
Stan Dragland & Beth Follett have created works from objects-driftwood, stone, rusted bolts-found on walks across the peninsula. In our respect for the materials we use and for the beautiful land and sea they come from, we wish to honour our predecessors on the peninsula, especially the Indigenous peoples who suffered or were lost under colonialism.

Two Whales is one of my favourite places to go. It's charming and unique, and located in gorgeous Port Rexton. The owners are wonderful people who support the local art community, the coffee is delicious and they have fresh vegetarian options made with their own produce. Also GF and vegan options. Love it!

Great little cafe! Bit pricey but worth it and conveniently located right on the highway. We did some hiking and stopped for a treat on our way home. The mission statement posted on the wall by cash area really made me appreciate the business and noted it was also awarded for sustainability in 2020.

I don't understand what all of the hype is about this restaurant. Maybe it is the coffee and pastries, which we did not try, but the lunch food and service is unimpressive. We got carry out so as not to inconvenience the staff close to closing time. The young girl at the counter could not/would not describe a confusing menu item. All I was asking was if it was a salad or not, and she did not have an answer. The lentil soup was fine--nothing special-but overpriced at $7 for probably 6 oz of soup. We had a veggie panini which was also very ordinary.

My head almost exploded when we found a vegetarian spot in the woods of Newfoundland. So excited. When we arrived and saw them growing their own food, and serving top quality food, that was the cherry on top!
Do note, this is not a cheap place to eat! It was very expensive, even for newfoundland. Prices here were 50% more than what they would be in Boston, MA, USA. Which also is an expensive place. It's worth it, to eat organic vegetarian food, just be prepared.
Staff are awesome, and so nice.
Baked goods are off the charts good.

It's a great breakfast and lunch spot. As casual and basic decor as you'll ever find--in keeping with the Trinity/Bonavista sensibility. Just an unassuming building on 230 between Port Rexton and Trinity. It modestly calls itself a coffee shop, but it's more than that. In a way, it's a great restaurant in that it exceeds your expectations. Based on its plain construction and simple comfort food menu, you expect short order quality food. Everything they make is satisfying--and they bake all their delicious breads, bagels and pastries in-house. Soups and salads are always great

Great little coffee shop with some of the best food in the area! Most of the menu items are home grown by them selves, and others are sourced locally. Prices are very fair for the quality of food! I had the curried sweet potato soup with cheesy soda bread and their sparkling organic lemonade. It was the best meal I possibly ever had

Stopped here for a snack after hiking the Skerwink Trail. Based on what we tried, and what we see on the other plates around this lovely little restaurant, I dare say this is probably one of the best restaurants on the entire peninsula. We've found many acceptable places to eat in Trinity and Bonavista, but this is the rare place that I'd return to regularly if it were back home in DC. Looking forward to trying more.

Much of the recommendations in this province are word-of-mouth. And so it was with Two Whales. The proprietor of Rosedale Manor in Placentia gave me the name as I was staying at Fishers Loft for three days ~ and glorious they were.
I visited first thing, before even checking in, as I was famished from the long drive. I had a salad and soup, deliciously fresh and flavorful, and their fresh lemonade while I sat and enjoyed the quiet, the rustic scenery, free WiFi and artwork on white walls.
Yes, and every day after I would lunch and buy two desserts: one for later and one for the following

A lovely cafe along the road in beautiful Port Rexton, Home-made, vegetarian, two fresh soups daily, regular sandwich menu + specials, yummy desserts and baked goods change daily, fresh salads, great tea and coffee. Binoculars for spotting whales in the harbor across the road. A community meeting place for visitors and residents, wifi, local art on the walls, Ask about buying bread, jam, bagels to go. Super friendly owners and staff. Seasonal.
