A screening can identify if there is a reduction in your hearing range. It is beneficial to have a regular hearing screening to monitor your hearing levels. A screening can also identify when a referral to your family doctor is necessary. There are conditions which can be treated medically to improve hearing, the most basic being earwax or fluid in the middle ear.
There are many hearing aid manufacturers and styles to choose from as well as different technologies. Today's hearing aids offer hands free operation with the latest in digital technology including Bluetooth to assist with the television and telephone. Sometimes people with hearing loss need assistance from specialized devices such as alarm clocks, telephones, and fire alarms.
Maintaining your auditory memory - when sounds are not heard by the ears the brain eventually forgets them. The great thing is your brain can re-learn sounds with a little perseverance. As hearing declines communication becomes more difficult and studies have shown that social contact becomes less frequent due to frustration and embarrassment which results in a withdrawal from life.
