Services
The therapeutic relationship is built on trust and mutual understanding, without it, there is a lack of openness which is of course a key component of therapy. Having doubts or fears about the therapeutic process is normal; however, a desire to change and keeping an open mind in the process is critical for inspiring personal growth.
Couples therapy, sometimes called relationship or marriage counselling, is when you and your partner seek out a therapist to help you move through the challenges you are experiencing as a couple. Having a neutral third party can be helpful in guiding you while teaching you healthy, more effective ways of connecting and communicating with each other.
This type of therapy utilizes creative processes involving drama, art, music, movement, storytelling, and play. The utilization of these processes help individuals reduce anxiety and hypersensitivity, to express and process difficult emotions such as anger, sadness, loss, and grief, and to increase emotion-regulation skills, social skills, cognitive flexibility, and self-esteem.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) is an entire therapy model that has been proven to be highly effective for those who have experienced trauma. It is recommended by the World Health Organization for treating PTSD and is considered an evidence based practice. During trauma our brain processes memories differently and sometimes stores them improperly.
A family who attends family therapy may be parents and children*, a set of siblings, a parent and child, or any group of people who identify as a family unit, as the aim in family therapy is to focus on the workings of interpersonal relationships within a group. Family therapy generally brings several family members together for sessions, although in specific situations, the therapist may choose to meet with individual family members.
