After studying at the Ontario College of Art, Ron worked as a commercial photographer and graphic designer before turning his attention to furniture. In 1987 he started Carriage House Designs, designing and building limited production and commissioned furniture for clients in both Canada and the United States.
It's been our great pleasure to have helped people from across North America and around the world create something extraordinary - here are some of the kind words they've had to say. 12 weeks at Rosewood shaped my life immeasurably. The skills I learned over that short period formed the foundation of a 10 year (and counting) furniture career that I am extremely proud of.

Amazing experience far exceeded my expectations. How little did I know I could learn so much in a caring, professional and kind environment. Ron is a Master of his craft and is eager to share his fine skills and knowledge with everyone. I simply had no idea how little I knew lol!

I completed the 12 week program in the fall of 2018 and was very impressed by the professionalism of the head instructor, Ron. The course has a good flow that allows you to progress at your own pace, while gaining confidence. We improved our personal skill sets to the point where we were milling rough lumber, doing our own cut lists and mastering… the machinery in the workshop with little to no assistance. Safety was strictly enforced and Ron was always there to offer advice and/or constructive criticism as required. It takes you from zero to hero and allows you to build your confidence

I spent two weeks in late August of 2018 at Rosewood Studio and truly enjoyed my time there and learned a lot about the basics of hand tools and machinery. Ron and Jim, backed up with the administration of Mary Anne made the two weeks very enjoyable. I will be back for more detailed advanced classes. The class sizes are small and all learnings are hands on. First rate.

My experience at Rosewood studio exceeded my expectations. The best thing I found about this school is that the instructor teaches the reasoning and methodology behind the techniques used and all its possible alternatives, which helped me fully grasp the concepts of “making” allowing for a strong understanding of design possibilities and limitations.

Rosewood Studio has awesome programs and an excellent facility for learning the art of Fine Woodworking. Instruction is tailored to suit the student, and from my own experience the instructors are always very professional and patient. Hand tools and power tools are top-notch and very well maintained. This School is highly recognized in the woodworking world and recommended.

Just completed the chair making and design class with Garrett Hack. It was such an enjoyable and enlightening experience. I got so much one-on-one time with Garrett it almost felt like I was his apprentice for six days. In fact that's a feeling I've always had after completing a class at Rosewood, whether it be with a guest instructor or with Ron. Very knowledgeable instructors who encourage you to take the the time to do things right; That 's the Rosewood culture and for me it translates into a boost in confidence to try new projects/techniques with a feeling that my woodworking moved to the next

I'm a novice woodworker, and I've taken 3 1-week courses so far at Rosewood Studio focusing on hand tools (my preference). It's given me a lot of confidence to just get out there and make stuff; I'm now armed with a hand built shop stool, a dovetailed tool tote, and many tips and techniques (ask Ron about his hand saw parlour trick) about woodworking in general. I highly recommend it. The instructors are world class, very approachable, and can answer any question you have. You can bring your own tools or use the complete set of high quality tools included. The shop is extremely well equipped and

For a 2 week course it was relatively expensive ($1,400). The teacher is very knowledgeable about wood working in particular furniture making. He would talk negatively about problem past students in particular the lady who bent his saw. One point that was lacking is that very few handouts were provided during the course. This required me to rush to copy down key points the instructor made. This course would be very beneficial to any individual with a passion for wood working. If you are not particularly interested in woodworking this course is not worth it for you to take.
