Pierres Steatites
Pierres Statites inc. is a supplier of serpentine and steatite, or soapstone, used in counters, wall covering, kitchen sink, washbasin and other architectural products, sculpting stone, and soapstone heaters. We invite you to explore all the possibilities of a material that has passed the test of time and which qualities make it an essential part of your comfort and decor.
Services
Depending on the design of your soap-stone masonry heater and the outdoor temperature, a one to two hours of wood burning will provide enough heat that will be gently radiated over a twelve to twenty-four hour period. Soapstone resists to high temperature and its effi-ciency comes from its capacity to absorb heat fast and to release it very slowly.
The heat by radiance reheats our body, but also the walls of the house, which contributes to the general comfort of a soapstone masonry heater. While using the heating by radiance, we restricts the heat difference between the ceiling and the floor, know for the heating by convection (traditional). This heating type reduces the dust accumulations in the house and the humidity in the air remains constant.
Soapstone has a smooth soapy feeling. Primarily composed of talc, soapstone is light green/gray when fresh from the quarry, but its surface oxidizes over time, deepening in color and developing an attractive patina. Softer than marble or granite, it is easy to repair nicks and chips in its surface.
We do any additional support required for the new soapstone counters as part of the installation process. Any plumbing connections will have to be done by a licensed plumber after the counters have been installed. This is not part of our installation process. If we're installing a soapstone backsplash we will install any existing electrical outlets into the backsplash.
Soapstone has aesthetic qualities that make it a material of choice when you want to give a unique look to your kitchen or bathroom. Give you sink or washbasin a more traditional or an original shape while cutting down on maintenance. Soapstone is highly hygienic since it is impervious to acids, alkalis, and bacteria.
