For the everyday individual who works and is on their feet a lot during the day, custom made orthotics can beneficial in relieving and preventing a number of foot and lower limb problems that can occur with excessive over use. Our custom made orthotics are made from an exact replica of your foot taken in it's most natural (neutral position).
Since 1970, Nick Caravaggio Sr. owned and operated a shoe repair shop & orthotic clinic at 395 Water St. across from the old Peterborough Examiner building (now Scotiabank). During the late 1970's he transitioned his work into field of Pedorthics and began to treat patients suffering from foot and lower limb problems with custom made orthotics.
Pedorthists are trained specialists who assess, design, manufacture, fit and modify foot appliances and footwear for the purposes of alleviating painful or debilitation conditions. A foot orthotic is a medical device that fits discreetly in your shoe to support, align, and accommodate your foot and help treat and PREVENT many lower limb problems.
With the increase in claims for custom made orthotics, many insurance companies have firmed their stance what they cover for custom made orthotics in an attempt to eliminate some orthotic providers who don't have any qualification and training in orthotic manufacturing. During your first visit, we conduct a thorough patient history followed by a number of functional tests including quantifying any forefoot deformities. We then observe the plantar foot pressures by getting you to step on what is called a plantar scope.
Next a biomechanical assessment is done including a video gait analysis where we observe you walk on a treadmill and through a computerized system we measure precisely how much distortion there is in the foot and lower limb while you are in motion.If you are a runner, we can also perform the same procedure while you're running on a treadmill.

I had an 18 degree pronation in my ankle two years ago (severe is considered something like 12 degrees). Nick and Nick Jr. fashioned special orthotics for me, and repeatedly made adjustments to the orthotics as my pronation decreased due to their interventions and getting some physiotherapy. Nick and Nick (Jr.), as well as their assistant, Anne-Marie, were always accommodating and concerned for my welfare. Highly recommend! I was very well taken care over and well informed of what was going on with my poor sore feet. I have had experience with other orthotics places in town and left with a clunky run of the mill set that I never wore because it didn't suit my lifestyle whatsoever. The process of foot casting with Nick was so impressive, it's much more custom, and makes sure the proper arch is supported. Thank you for your excellent service!

I am very pleased with the service provided by Nick Jr. I had trouble finding a solution for my “runners knee” and shortly after using these handcrafted orthotics, my knee pain had gone away. I was highly recommended to this clinic with their work for people with short leg after hip surgery. And I was so pleasantly surprised with the results. They took their time to measure my discrepancy that nobody else could and now I feel like I'm walking clouds. Very impressed with the professionalism of the entire staff with the precautions they took during this COVID pandemic,. Nick took all the proper measures and I felt very safe during my visit. I was very impressed with Nick Caravaggio Jr. During this pandemic Nick went above and beyond to look after my needs. As a front line health care worker I was unable to come to the clinic so and was in need of assistance for my feet. He drove 90 minutes to my house to pick up my older orthotics, and not only was he able to make a new pair off my old ones- he fixed the old ones free of charge and then dropped them off at my house the next day! I am so incredibly grateful for his work ethic and dedication to his patients.

Absolutely blown away with the precision and craftsmanship that goes into making new orthotics. When I first came in, Both Nick Sr. and Nick Jr. were very professional and very thorough with their assessment. I was impressed that they could measure what my feet and legs were doing as I was walking and running on the treadmill with their video gait analysis system. The way they take a cast of my foot was like a work of art, and seeing how they make the orthotics on site themselves was quite something. My orthotics work great and can wear them in any shoe, and my knee and back pain are a thing of

Very happy with my results. Nick Jr. treated me with terrific professionalism. Explained everything very well and I especially was impressed how he watched me walk on the treadmill and was able to measure what the problem was and then show it to me. Everywhere else that I went before just got me to walk down a hall way or stand on a pressure mat. Alot more scientific which is what I like. And more importantly, the orthotics he made me allow me to finally walk pain free. I salute you on a job well done!
