Before Liberty Foods became established in Fruitvale BC, its predecessor, Liberty Food Centre was originally founded in 1939 by Tom Wong and became the first supermarket in Nelson, BC. Along with shareholders, George Kaiway and J.D. Hingwing, president and secretary, Liberty Food Centre boasted a number of modern amenities, including a refrigerated self-serve produce section.

After 3 years of working at the Liberty Food Centre in Nelson, Dick and Susan Dar set out to establish Liberty Foods in Fruitvale, BC. Dick purchased a small grocery store on the outskirts of town and together with Susan's brother Dennis, they took that tiny little store, built it up and relocated it to where it is today in the heart of Fruitvale on 1950 Main Street.

We're committed to the Beaver Valley community and we do our best to take every opportunity to support or sponsor an event, team or project. We gave to over 30 local groups last year and will continue to give as much as we can in the upcoming years. We rely on the community for our continued success, so we see it as our obligation to give back at any opportunity that we can.
A good staff is the core of any business. We take this to heart whenever we do any hiring and look for a few specific things in all of our staff. We look to hire people who are >community minded, because when our staff and customers are our neighbors, it gives a personal relationship to every interaction.

Very organized, clean and well-stocked store. They had flavours of chips I haven’t seen at other grocery stores. Surprising variety of selection for a smaller grocery store. The people on the checkout were helpful and friendly. Thank you!

-2 stars for closing so early. I'd have to leave work earlier to buy supper..
-1 star for pricing
With a store the size of Walmart so close is there really the need to charge 2x as much for the same items?

Best selection of grocery products, their Bakery and Deli have delicious products! The Produce Department is great! Liberty’s Meat Department is by far one of the best in the West Kootenays! The meat is delicious! The staff is so friendly! They also have online shopping available where you can put in an order on their website, they pick the order, they will call you if they are out of stock on an item and see what you would like as a substitution to the out of stock item, then they will email or call when the online order is ready, and you can either walk in the store and pick it up or can do

Nice store ‐lots of unique or cdn made products and items.
But it tends to be priced higher.
But if u prefer smaller town-country like atmosphere , you will like this store for sure.
