At Bistro One, our mission is simple: we serve food and drinks that reflect the seasons, producers, and personalities of the people preparing them. For over twenty years, we have served the people of Thunder Bay with upscale, refined food. In autumn 2019, Bistro One was purchased by Gallant Corporation.
Under new ownership, the restaurant underwent a complete reimagination to create an inviting, modern space while maintaining its original roots. Centered around seasonal produce our talented team of Chefs are continually creating new dishes incorporating local products, as is our Sommelier with a bespoke beverage menu.

Food wasn't that great! I've had a few full course dinners at Bistro One over the years and was always satisfied. Today was my first lunch there and I was somewhat disappointed with both my salad and my main dish. Beet & Quinoa salad which was mostly lettuce was a bit on the wilted side and I could not find any quinoa in there either. My main dish was the Crisp Vegetable Risotto which was a risotto cake fried or baked to a crisp in a pool of rich creamy sauce. Food was disappointing, atmosphere was great. Still had a good time so 3 starts. I may come back for dinner again but probably not for lunch

Absolutely the best restaurant in town! The scallops were the best I've ever had! My salmon was cooked perfectly and my husband's steak with their famous peppercorn cream sauce.....wow! Just wow! It certainly has left a wonderful impression on us and we are eagerly awaiting another meal here! You will be absolutely delighted by their meals and quality of service. Just amazing!!

This is officially one of my favorite restaurants in Thunder bay. I've been a few time before but this week was my first experience since they added the bar side. I've always preferred sitting at the bar so it made Bistro One more approachable for me personally. The bar is well designed and very elegant. Their drink selection and pricing is also amazing. The food is well worth the price even on a weekday.
I've gone twice this week. Once with my partner and the second time by myself. My partner and I shared an app and entrée. The ahi tuna was absolutely perfect and well balanced.

Both the beef carpaccio and duck leg confit were executed very well, though the duck confit was on the salty side. Duck breast was very tender and filet mignon was cover in a very interesting sauce that had a sweetness and a hint of spiciness. Filet mignon was ordered medium rare but it was more medium than medium rare. Service was very good, attentive and friendly. Desserts took a while to be brought out, cholocat gateau was said to need 15 min to prepare but took more like 30 min, which explains the melted in house made ice cream when all desserts were brought to the table. Overall a lovely experience

My husband suggested we go here for my pre-birthday dinner and it was fabulous. Both of us are from Vancouver and we find it quite a challenge to find a really good restaurant in Thunder Bay. Bistro One is the only restaurant in town that's close to fine dining quality like Vancouver. Excellent food with good service to match. My favourite is the seared tuna with wonton crisp (pictured here) that melts in the mouth. Will surely be back again soon.

I had a business lunch here and it was very good. The seafood chowder appetizer was delicious and could have been a meal in itself, but we also tried the grilled cheese with a warm tomato salad and it was great for a cold winter day. We also had some chocolate mousse and the flavours were fantastic. The staff were very friendly and gave some helpful advice. I would definitely recommend you give them a try for lunch.
